Just saw Pixar's new Up

***Spoiler!!!!!!***

Man the first 15 minutes broke my heart... so sad. I consider myself a quite a 'manly' guy, but I'm sucker for a genuine drama like this.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I'm surprised Pixar took such a bold departure with truly bizarre story elements. Voice-machine collared talking dogs? Flying a house to South America by balloons?

I felt like some parts were stretching it a bit too far. Ratatouille, Cars, The Incredibles, Monsters Inc, etc.. all those films were within its own cohesive suspension of belief. UP was bit too crazy at times. I had to roll my eyes when I saw the dogs piloting fighter planes.

UP is also the most 'adult' themed movie out of all Pixar's. It dealt with death, heart-retching life regrets, assault & battery, court summons, child abandonment, divorced parents, lawsuit and nursing homes. Man, they're very heavy-handed for a children's movie, especially compared to something like Finding Nemo.

All in all, I loved it. Again, I loved the childhood couple growing old together part. The rest of the movie didn't quite sweep me away like Monster Inc. or Ratatouille did (awesome ending), Pixar has definitely done it again.

3.75 out of 5!

Dude.

It's a freakin cartoon!

I guess the whole concept of a house flying on toy balloons was the realistic part for you, eh? 😉

It's called a suspension of belief within itself. When you watch Star Wars, is it okay if Darth gains a super force to explode a solar system because it's scifi?

I thought the whole dog fight scene was a parody of the dog fight scene from star wars with the millenium falcon. The zeppelin in the background just reminded me of the star destroyer in the background as the tie fighters descended.

I actually shed a tear or two watching that, which is a first. I've watered up, but can't recall ever having it run.

movie is REALLY fucking funny most parts

the opening short animation (clouds) was hilarious as well

only part about the movie that was annoying are the talking dogs... just seems like a cheesy part of an otherwise very well executed movie

And yeah, the opening collage, plus towards the end with the scene of him and the book epiphany (don't want to go into any more spoiler details). I've shed tears before in movies, but I've never outright sobbed and had the physical muscle contractions, but these two scenes really did it for me - and this stuff is really geared towards more mature audiences who will have an appreciation for this stuff. I don't see toddlers having the prerequisite life experience.

you are a giant vagina

squirrel!

We took the kids to see it this morning. My wife couldn't stop laughing at 'Partly Cloudy' short. She got really loud she was laughing so hard.

UP was probably one of the sweetest and most endearing animated films I've ever seen. The fact that Pixar was able to do that along with the comedy and action is extremely impressive. But that has always been Pixar's strength - they are fantastic storytellers. Not just great animators.

Do they give you 3D glasses at the theater?........

You get to use them and have to return them after the show, atleast that was the case when I went to see Beowolf.

:Q WTF is this shit, communist China? I got plastic frame 3D glasses that were new and sealed when I bought my Up 3D movie ticket. There are cardboard boxes in the hallway for you to recycle the 3D glasses if you don't feel like keeping them after the movie.

the cinemark here charge 3$ for the glasses. obviously, they are yours new and yours to keep.

i bought my ticket from the vending machine, so no glass surcharge. walked in and asked a worker where the glasses were and he gave me a fresh pair.

although the 3d is cool, it did make the movie a bit dark, and in some scenes that were not rendered for stereoscopic viewing, i took the glasses off... kinda preferred the non-3d stuff

I was there for the movie more than visuals, so went for the 2D version. Unfortunately, the theatre screened this version in their "dud" rooms (small screen, lot fewer seats).

i don't see you choking anyone to death.

UP is one our to see list though.

That kid probably equals what you'd do in a crisis whether you believe it or not.

AWesome awesome movie. Just got back yesterday from watching it. I missed it in its first month of release because I was away on a business trip. Wonderful movie. Tearjerker, and had very real adult themes as well. Pixar = Awesome.

I thought Up was good.
I didn't think it was as good as soon other Pixar movies like Toy Story and Wall-E but it's much better than most other animated movies that are not made by Pixar.

The harder you try, the easier your cover is blown.

We saw it when we came and we found it too damn depressing. It was a great movie, but it was like the ultimate Disney snuff flick.

Saw it with the free Tuesday Cablevision Triple-Play tickets. Both grandkids got intensely into the movie, no fidgeting and fussing
(once they got past the opening montage), which makes it a winner in my book.

Oh, and I really liked it myself.
