Well, I just saw TTT. My analysis:

Gollum: Holy crap! He was awesome! Best CG character ever made! Period!

Ents: They ruled! Their attack on Isengard: marvelous sight!

Battle at Helms Deep: 110% kick-ass!

The Black Gates: whoa!

Easterlings: No CG there, but I loved they way they were brought to the screen.

Bad things/things that kinda sticked out: Only one. Ents decide not to attack Isengard. Then Treebeard sees the cut-down trees and gets angry. 5 seconds later the ents are all there and they decide to attack. It seemed a bit rushed. But that's a minor thing.

The changes they made: didn't bother me one bit. Aragorns near-death experience: Nope, didn't bother. Faramir changes: Yes they were big. But they were well made. They were certainly different from books version, but not necessarily worse. Ents/huorns: Mostly minor changes. Changes were basically in the details. Warg-riders. They were cool, no problems there. Gimli-jokes: many of those were in the book, so they were canon. And they didn't make the movie any worse, on the contrary. They provided otherwise dark movie with some humor.

My GF was really looking forward of seeing the ents, and she was a bit disappointed when they didn't make their appearance is Helms Deep.

I saw some little kids in the theater. I think this is not a suitable movie for kids.

Now that I have seen it, I will see it again. 5/5 stars!

I couldn't belive that the movie lived up to the hype and more.

Incredible movie! Went to the 11AM showing...luckily, there weren't any lines. After coming out, there were super long lines forming outside. People were only laughing during the funny parts and some women were screaming/cheering during the Legolas scenes.

It had great action/special effects and continued the first movie's message of honor, friendship, respect, trust and hope. Can't wait for ROTK!

In the meantime, time to read the Two Towers. 🙂

well i read the books before i saw the movies, and you have to give the movie makers credit for what they DID cover, while the movie was long, they were still just flying through the story

Thats entirely possible, since the first two have done so well.


Personally, I would want more like a 6 hour movie, just to give plenty of time to pull things together cause I dont want it rushed. Theres still a whole effin LOT of story to go through. Plus, a battle thats a lot bigger than helms deep.

Thats for sure....I am not positive, but I think the battle in ROTK is going to involve over 100,000 characters....compared to "only" abotu 20,000 in the Helms Deep one. *Drool*

The greatest number of Massive agents on the screen at once in TTT was around 12,000. In ROTK the greatest number is supposed to be in the range of 200,000.

Here's my take, as a movie it's great, well done, enjoyable. As a LOTR story it falls short (elves anyone????). They just changed soooooooooooooooooooo much stuff from the book! I see how some of it is justified for a moviegoer audience, but it still bugs me, having read the book. And bentwookie, you're a freaking idiot! I already read them, but that's just mean. The mods should remove that. Some people are just soo stupid!

I've read the books numerous times, and I loved the movie. To be honest, I feel it was one of the best movies I have ever seen and as good, if not better, than the first. Granted, things were changed, but I thought the story came across really well. Oh well, I can see why some didn't like it.

It?s either in the Siege of Gondor, where all the enemies attack the white walls, and the Rohirrim lending a helping hand + Aragorn with his army etc... Or the battle in the black walls. But the Black walls battle was not as detailed in the book, cause so many things were happening at the same time... anyway, its gona be bigger then the battle of helms deep.

 

Just chiming in. I didn't like this one as much as Fellowship. After reading the books this year, I feel TTT is lacking in the "soul" department. I just wished they focused more on characters than the epic battles. Gollum was great, I could not tell he was CG at all and the conflicted personality is right on.

Gimili was great in Fellowship but he is starting to get on my nerves. They are too many Gimili/dwarf jokes at inappropriate times, especially when the battle of Helm's Deep is heating up the tension is completly broken by a Gimili joke. At the same time the Legolas/Gimili chemestry is faithful to the books. Overall I give it thumbs up, but I think Fellowship and Kings will be the bookends for the series.
