i liked the movie because i like kung fu flicks, and anime flicks.. it was a GOOD movie, who cares who made it? i loved Snatch and I'd never seen any of guy ritchies wackie movies before. You DIDNT get the movie (painfully obvious).. you don't seem like a fan of anime or kung fu in that sense, so how could you enjoy it? or get it at that? stop being a troll.

how bout this, tell us what would of made it better? keep in mind it was made ot be silly / extreme / everything people have said (and was very successful at it).

EDIT: and the blood stuff.. GO WATCH NINJA SCROLL.. one of the best kung fu/ninja animes, and you'll see the blood, and see how silly you look to people who 'get it' heh.

Sigh, and you call ME a troll. OK, one more time: I "get" the movie. OK? I freaking "get" it, OK?

That was my Quentin Tarantino impression. OK?

Now, if you had read the previous posts, I said that I liked several QT movies. I metioned Pulp Fiction. I mentioned that I own Resevoir Dogs and True Romance, both of which I like.

I also mentioned an obscure kung fu movie that you've probably never seen, and I mentioned the "Kung Fu Theater" of the 80's. This should show you that I know just a little bit about kung fu movies. Not much, but enough to "get" the genre.

I never said anything about anime. While I enjoy a good anime movie, I do not go out of my way to find/watch them.

Are we on the same page now?

You ask what would have made it better? That's a loaded question. I could tell you what would have made it better for me. Imagine all the money QT received being put into a more serious kung fu movie. I didn't really mind the camp that much in KB1, until it got to the fire hydrant blood spurt scenes (see my original post).

If some of the people posting out here had their way, it probably would have had ten times as much blood and made half as much sense, and they would have been overjoyed.

Look, it obviously stresses you out trying to understand us morons. Let the retards watch their cartoony, bloody, waste of film and watch a movie with real kung fu, like Iron Monkey. Oh wait, thats too cartoony... hmmm, watch Crouching Tiger hidd....err, they fly in that one. Um, watch Drunken Master, er.. nevermind thats silly too. um, just rent a Steven Segal movie and pretend you don't notice the cuts during the action sequences.

Crouching Tiger - I own it
Iron Monkey - I own it
Drunken Master - seen it, liked it, but not as much as CTHD or Iron Monkey.
Steven Segal - big asshat

If you are comparing these 3 movies to Kill Bill, we are both coming from completely different plains of reality.

I wouldn't say that they are similar movies, but I'm pointing out that in those "serious kung-fu movies", there is a huge element of fantasy/silliness... People can not fly, they do not inflict disease with a palm strike, they do not become a more skilled fighter by getting drunk, and kung-fu experts do not try their hardest to incorporate common objects into a life-threatening fight... just like 10 gallons of blood does not spray from an amputated arm, and one woman doesn't kill a roomful of yakusa with a sword...

and the steven segal thing was a joke.

I'm suprised that you actually enjoyed a movie like Iron Monkey, which is essentially a comic book.
You should have watched Kill Bill with the same attitude. Both films take advantage of their medium to step out of reality.

And had I gone into KB1 looking at it as a farce, I might have enjoyed it. I doubt it, but it's possible. Gotta go, I have to close this guy's computer up and go home.

ERr, the blood spurting has nothing to do with old kung fu movies.
ERr, did you skip my post?

In order to achieve the specific look of Chinese "wuxia" (martial arts) film of the 1970s, Tarantino gave director of photography, Robert Richardson, an extensive list of genre films as a crash-course in the visual style they used. The list included films by genre-pioneers Cheh Chang and the Shaw Brothers. Tarantino also forbade the use of digital effects and "professional" gags and squibs. As such, he insisted that bloody spurts be done in the fashion made popular by Chang Cheh: Chinese condoms full of fake blood that would splatter on impact.

Believe everything you read? Have you ever seen a martial arts film of the 1970's? I have. I grew up watching that stuff. I certainly don't recall seeing blood volcanically erupting from wang chung's neck trunk when his head was severed. Oh, and 'splatter' does not equal 'erupting'. That quote only explains half of the style. The geysers of blood are more a take from japanime than they are from old school kung fu movies.

But seriously, if I'm wrong prove it to me. I'd love to see a 1970's kung fu movie that had blood gushing from heads straight into the air for about 5 seconds because being proven wrong is fun.

Its supposed to be over the top, what is there to "get"? Just as somebody mentioned Army of Darkness, you either love its corniness or you don't. The spurting blood was hilarious IMO, but in a way that was different than Ninja Scroll. The violence portrayed was so extreme that it had to be farsical or it would have just distracted from the movie. What I do greatly credit QT for doing in that movie was setting up some fantastic shots/ camera angles. All his pictures are very interesting to look at and greatly build-up the character of the movie. His use of the various styles (color, BW, anime etc) also played very well. Visually I thought the movie was stunning.

Holy Jesus! I'm glad I wan't the only one who noticed! Her feet looked like they were smashed with a hammer. Not one toe was friggin strait and the crooked big toe with a tiny nasty (and dirty!) nail was just sick. She went down five magnitudes of hottieness due to her smashed up ogre feet. Maybe that's why Ethan cheated on her ass, got tired of those hooves touching him at night....

I know (I think 😛) what booster was saying about a woman's foot. If a girl has cute feet then she's probably cute all over. If she was nasty feet, well, you're probably best off to keep moving.

I think I heard on Conan yesterday that Vol II had even more feet shots. Conan thinks Quentin has a foot fetish.

i read somewhere that he's def got a fetish. like with bridgette fondas feet in jackie brown.

The fact that you referred to the movie as a "parody" makes it painfully clear that you did NOT in fact, "Get it".

Just saw the movie. I went into watching it thinking that it was a serious revenge gore kung fu kick ass movie. I was wrong, but wasn't neccessarily unhappy. My g/f that I watched it with thought it sucked, she doesn't appreciate a good movie. She likes things simple, and doesn't realize that sometimes there is more the the movie than what meets the eye. To the OP who wants to know whats so great about the movie.

One of the things I really enjoyed was the music and how well it was implemented into each scene, it gave the scenes quite an odd feel to them, very unique and in my opinion enjoyable. Another example of why this movie is 'good' is the fight scene where there are like 80 billion dudes, and then finally there is a small group left and they are upstairs in the room where the lucy lui chick was originally. Well I like how QT decided to use just the shadows on a blue background for that final fight scene, again very unique. IMO it was an interesting movie to watch, somewhat entertaining, and a movie that you enjoy more if you really look at the actual pieces of the film, rather than the special effects.

Overal- Interesting somewhat entertaining movie, not great though. Good movie, unique in many aspects. I'll probably see the 2nd one when it comes out on video just to see how it ends.

My only gripe is that the story line progressed to slowly, and I was expecting more encounters with members of the deadly assassin squad, rather than watching the majority of the movie as a flashback. It was intended to be like that I guess.

just remember it was original one movie, split in 2 so as to take more of your hard earned money because you know you'll pay it and pay it gladly

There, fixed it for ya. 😉

I think they work better as two movies... and let's be honest $29 isn't going to break my wallet ($9 for the movie and $20 for the DVD when it comes out).

Here's one from the late 70's I think: "The Flying Guillotine". These guys had this thing on the end of a long chain, and they would throw it at you, and it would plop onto your head. Then they would pull the chain which would cause blades in the thing to spring out and cut off your head. There was some blood spurting in that one, but not nearly as much as in Kill Bill.

Wow, someone who can actually give a reason as to why they liked the movie. I commend you! BTW the shadows fighting, I think QT stole that from the old Robin Hood movie, the one with Errol Flynn.

Well, I started out looking for a good conversation...Then I decided to push some people's buttons, because I am bored.

I am just trying to get someone to tell me why they liked the movie without them saying "Because Quenten Tarantino made it". I could give you several reasons why I didn't like the movie. But it'll cost you....an arm and a leg, which I will chop off and your blood will shoot out 50 feet!

So basically you're trolling.

Look, you didn't like it. I don't care, I did. Stop jumping up everyone's butt because they enjoyed a movie and you didn't. I just liked the retro feel, and as a fan of 70s kung-fu films and having a passing interest in Anime I knew what this movie was about after I started watching it. Plus, watching hot chicks fight is enjoyable to me on a very basic level.

As far as being a sheep...this certainly isn't the same kind of movie most QT movies are. And I don't even like all of his films. I recall finding Jackie Brown to be disappointing.

Its not our job to make you like the movie, no one's asking for that job because no one cares if you like or not.

Dang! You caught me...after I kinda spelled it out for everybody...

In my opinon it is one of the best movies I have seen this year.

I though that the blood was so over the top it made it cool. I am just glad the blood spillage was saved for just a few people instead of everyone that died.

haha, i know. they're all weird and long and thick, and she has toes that are longer than some people's fingers.

just watching it for the first time tonight. now i gotta see the second!

I decided to rent out this movie since there as so much hype(I heard about Vol1.) anticipating for Vol 2. I decided to give it a go. I find myself dissappointed.

Before you jump to the conclusion that "I didn't get it" or anything. I'm Asian, and I come from a martial arts background as a child. Under my viewing belt which I personally enjoyed even movies like Jackie Chan's Drunken Master, SuperCOP, Jet Li's WongFeiHung series and any Bruce Lee movie. Anime is something I'm very familiar with movies such as Ninja Scroll, Blood The Vampire are among my list that also have bloody gore in which I enjoyed. As a first time watcher, I find this movie excessively violent. Personally, I give all credit to QT for the style for his cinematics, lighting and camera angles. That is probably the most impressive part.

However, I find his lack of plot a weak purpose for the movie to go on this long. You can literally tell the entire story in 20 seconds.

The action scenes at times were too drawn out with excessive violence that had no "coolness" factor to it. When watching movies like "The Matrix" there were new innovative never seen before action that revolutionized Hollywood. I didn't see this here at all, infact it looked like a badly copied Anime that wasn't original at all. It appeared way too "hack & slash" for me, liberally just hacking limbs and heads off bodies that engulfed absolutely no style of fighting moves/techniques or poses. At times, it appeared way too choreographed for any of the moves to be believable. You can argue that the movie was an attempt to be "corny" and not supposed to be "believable", but then why make such a movie? What was the purpose for this movie?

I truly believe it's QT's desire to make a martial arts film with excessive gore. Nothing else other than that. If that's what you dig, then it'll make your day.

IMHO of course, if you liked it, I got no beef.

It didn't wiggle my toes.
