just saw k-pax; got some questions

I rented k-pax last night and don't quite understand the ending. Did Prot indeed go back to "k-pax" or was k-pax really a metaphore for something? Why did he end up in a wheel chair at the end?

My idea of it was, that Prot didn't kill those people, but he was an alien who was using that guy's body to walk around on earth, and did go back to k-pax at the end. *shrugs* 🙂

Weird movie indeed, but I enjoyed it.

thats pretty much how i understood it.

The point of the whole movie was to make you come to your own conclusion at the end. It certainly does make conversation. I, personally do believe he was an alien using the guy's body, if only because of drawing the star map perfectly for those scientists...

This is what I got from the movie -

He was an alien, who used that guys body as a "vessel". When the real guy tried to kill himself after his family was murdered, the alien took over his body and got out of the water, which explains why they never found a body.

When he left to go back to k-pax, he left the body and effectively the body was without a brain, a "soul", which would explain the wheel chair thing and not making any movement or speaking, etc.

Just finished watching it like 5 minutes ago. My impression was that he was the alien. He could see UV, talk to the dog, drew the map. He left the body and went back to K-Pax.

realistically - he went crazy after seeing his wife and daughter raped and killed, and came up with the whole k-pax (subsconsciously) thing to help him cope with the tragedy. I'm sure he really believed he was an alien, but in reality he was just a super-mental case. the talking to the dog thing was an act (though he might have thought he really could talk to it), the only things that trip up this theory are the star chart thing (which could have been an idiot-savant kinda thing) and the UV thing (this was odd)

but if u remember, the sheriff was talking about the real dude, Robert whatever.. and he said he was super strong like an Ox or something, so maybe the Robert guy had some freaky genetics thing going on that made him strong (he snapped the rapists neck like a twig) and made his eyes sensitive to UV

You guys missed it. Prot took the body of Betsy when he left. Robert Porter was his "home" on earth. Remember Betsy wrote the reason that she should be picked is because "she has no home"

I never thought of it the way Pennstate did, that's very interesting.

I think Pensstate is right.

He must be an alien b/c remember how all those tvs/monitors went to static when the light came to pick him up?

That is exactly right! You guys need to put the hash pipe down before you watch a movie like that 😉
