Just saw Donny Darko

Fascinating movie, but not something you want to think to heavily on. I watched the "Darko Cult" feature from the Directors Cut and I can't but find it a bit silly that people are so hungry for meaning that they woud seemingly invent it to fill the gaping holes left in the plot. The funny thing is, I don't think it was at all the directors intention to intitiate an intricate and expansive universe based on the DD world and yet it's grown wildy without hit assistance.

Anyhow, I thought it was a great movie but not because it offerd some life altering paradigm shift; just an interesting flick. Thoughts?

"Hey, I just saw HEAT."

"Heat..that was like..15 years ago!"

"Yeah..but I want to talk about it now!"

"No way, loser!"

Great movie, I haven't seen the directors cut. I've read it reveals too many of the details and is less enjoyable than the original. Incentally, Donnie Darko in hi-def was just posted on usenet a few days ago if anyone is interested.

OMG, I'm looking at that comedians face but I can't think of his name.....haha, great routine!!!

"I don't drink, and I find it funny how people are so curious as to why!! It's like me asking, you don't eat mayonaise? Why!!??"

Wow, I guess you either love it or hate it. I have it, but still haven't watched it.

Well I don't really fal into either. I don't love, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. I thought it was directed and acted well, and the music was awsome. One thing that can definately be said about it is that it was a totally unique cinematic experience, so far that I give it 2 thumbs up. At the same time I think the hubbub made about it by certain circles was waaay overblown.

I thought the movie was great and rather enjoyed it. I would highly recommend that you view it a second time while listening to the director's commentary...quite revealing.

My favourite quote from the movie (that i keep posting in all DD threads 😛)

Donnie: First of all, Papa Smurf didn't create Smurfette. Gargamel did. She was sent in as Gargamel's evil spy with the intention of destroying the Smurf village, but the overwhelming goodness of the Smurf way of life transformed her. And as for the whole gang-bang scenario, it just couldn't happen. Smurfs are asexual. They don't even have reproductive organs under those little white pants. That's what's so illogical, you know, about being a Smurf. What's the point of living if you don't have a dick?

Just saw it with some friends, strange movie... All I have to say is WTF? After reading this, I'm still not sure if I fully grasp the plot.

Meh...good movie but I predicted how it ended. Oh well...I do that with a lot of movies.
Predicting the end was not that hard to do with Donnie Darko. I liked it, but think that it was overally (and probably purposefully) enigmatic. Interesting thing for me about that movie is that I too was a senior in high school in the fall of '88.

I actually saw the director's cut in the theater when it was in limited release. I wasn't too fond of the new "time travel" sequence (I liked the simple rewind montage of the original), but I do love the fact that they put back all the really nice character scenes that got cut the first time because the studio didn't want the movie to run too long. The Watership Down subplot was a great addition to the story ("You and Frank can read it together") and the big father-son talk is one of my favorite scenes in the whole film. It really is a mixed bag for me, but overall it is better than the original because of the additional footage.

True...but I like to predict endings to movies. If I can't do it (or know that I just got a bit lucky) then I feel that someone in Hollywood did something right. Otherwise...it's just the same old crap. But I love those "Suspense/Thrillers that will leave you guessing until the end" and it usually leaves me guessing until about 20 minutes into the movie.

It doesn't really ruin the movie for me....but it sure is fun to ruin it for other people.
