He needs to stick with being a tall, skinny tool. He'd have more work if he did.

And the movie sucked. It was a scrappy rendition of Pulp Fiction's movie formula.

You're not too bright, are you, son?

I liked The Butterfly Effect but have yet to see the second movie, which most say isn't very good. If you liked The Butterfly Effect you might also enjoy Donnie Darko if you haven't seen it.

i saw this movie in theaters and liked it enough to buy the dvd. i do NOT think it is bad at all however the alternate ending SUCKED!!!!!!!!!!! it is not even possible! even if he was to revert that far back 1) his brain capacity as a baby would not be able to hold that many memories espeically including those of all the alternate time lines AND be bale to move enought o strangle himself with the chord. if he went that far back he would forget all his other lives and start all over again as a baby

*spoilers*
Yeah, cause everything else in the movie was totally plausible. Haha. ;)

Good movie... esp. the Director's Cut.

that isn't the point.t he point is if he was able to do the things he did then the movie would be believable. Moies don't try to be unbelievable they try and be believable and when they go and throw in something like that it just kills the rest of the story. The directors cut made the whole story lame and unbelievable while the regular ending was more on par with the rest of the movie and if the rest of the movie was believable then so was the ending.

I didn't like this movie or Donnie Darko. Both are just a pale imitation of the real thing IMHO. ~Woo, something strange happen, clueless boy goes gets lost in the creepy science.~

If you think this movie had a good plot, you might want to do more reading. Philip K. Dick, William Gibson, Harlan Ellison, or Neal Stephenson come to mind. Not that I'm saying they're necessarily a shortlist of the most stupendous writers ever, and they're certainly not my favorites, but they're all major-award-winning sci-fi authors who write stuff somewhat similar to this and Donnie Darko.

If you liked Butterfly Effect, you also might like Memento or Perfect Blue (anime). I didn't like either of them, but a lot of people do.

i own memento and i have seen perfect blue, memento is awesome, perfect blue was ok. another one of course that is sort a mix between Donnie Darko and Butterfly Effect is The Jacket

woah, the movie doesn't deserve that much critical thought being put into it.

what i do know is that topping off a pretty average movie with a fetus strangling itself is absolutely hilarious. it simply wasn't a good enough movie to take itself as seriously as it did.

ROFL ok you might be right about that part so i'll give you that. I did mention that I did like the movie and I did purchase it so the alternate ending actually made me think less of the movie, i know for a fact though that if the alternate ending was the main ending that was shown in theatres i would not have liked the movie or purchased it

Yes, the first time I saw it, it was the Director's cut. I rewatched the theatrical version and the alternate scenes, but I think the Director's cut is by far the best one.

Yup, Donnie Darko is another good one if you liked Butterfly Effect. The rabbit alone is worth it. Creepy!

I fail to see how the "implausible ending" kills a story where everything is implausible. The director's cut ending was definitely the best.

Ah but the real question is, how many of them are original or just pale imitations.

see that is the thing the rest of the movie was supposed to be plausable. You are supposed to believe he can move throughout his timeline and change it but if you accept that 1 fact as true which is the only thing you need to believe for the movie to work then you know if he moved back to his birth he would not have any memory of any of his lives and IF he did an unborn infant is now capable of chocking itself in the manner which he did in the movie, even in sci-fi world they can't convince us they can

Loved this movie, mainly for the interactions between the main character and his childhood version. IE, how he controls himself as a child with an adult intelligence level. Very cool perspective and twisted.
