This movie gets a pretty bad rep on RT, but I've heard some good things about it and I personally thought it was an interesting movie. The acting wasn't too bad, and the plot/concept was very thought-provoking and I think it was executed quite nicely. The version I saw was the Directors Cut with all the extra scenes, and we watched both endings and I thought the alternate one was better.

I liked it a lot. I saw the edited version. It's hard to take Kutcher seriously, but when I first saw it I hadn't seen That 70's Show or any of his other material. What was in the alternate ending?

You need to watch the directors cut because there were other scenes that were cut out because they didn't make sense with the new theatrical ending.

*SPOILERS*

One of the scenes cut out was him going to a fortune teller with his mom. The fortune teller freaks out and tells him that he has no soul and wasn't meant to be. His mom runs out crying and he asks her what's wrong and assures her that the fortune teller is just a quack. His mom tells him that she was pregnant twice before and both were stillbirths.

Later at the end with the projector instead of seeing a video of him and kaley he sees a video of his mom pregnant with him. He goes back and strangles himself with his umbilical cord. He dies and his mother eventually ends up marrying someone else and having a normal family.

Yeah unfortunately that's the case with a lot of actors. I know a lot of my friends really didn't like Stranger Than Fiction because Ferrell played such a different part...although I still thought the movie was great. And I know a lot of people be hatin' on 23 because they just aren't used to seeing Carrey play a serious part. I have seen it yet though, but I hear it's pretty good as well.

Thats the version I saw. The ending in the main video (of the director's cut) was different from the theatrical? Was the theatrical version the ending where he spots that girl walking down the city sidewalk?

I also thought the movie was pretty good, despite its low ratings on RT. The straight-to-DVD sequel was meh.

Yeah I was just informed of its existance when I did a "Butterfly Effect" search on RT. It looks absolutely horrible.

I saw Butterfly Effect 1, but never saw 2. Thats probably for the best though.

The first was really good and very thought provoking, and yes, I liked the director's original ending better. Hollywood execs like happy endings though. :/

Joo jsut Gawt PUnkwed!!!!! Daaawg!!

I am a self advertised genius that only has one character role of playing the awkward BF that ends up winning over THE girl after all my mediocre triumphs. Guess who I am?

He needs to stick with being a tall, skinny tool. He'd have more work if he did.

And the movie sucked. It was a scrappy rendition of Pulp Fiction's movie formula.

I loved it, all of my mates loved it. I didn't realise it had a bad rating on RT, but it doesn't surprise me. Like I needed another reason not to listen to movie critics.

I really liked the movie, Kutcher was pretty good in it even though I don't like him in anything else he's ever done.

*spoilers*

i saw this movie in theaters and liked it enough to buy the dvd. i do NOT think it is bad at all however the alternate ending SUCKED!!!!!!!!!!! it is not even possible! even if he was to revert that far back 1) his brain capacity as a baby would not be able to hold that many memories espeically including those of all the alternate time lines AND be bale to move enought o strangle himself with the chord. if he went that far back he would forget all his other lives and start all over again as a baby
