As far as I know, Dirk Diggler wasnt based on anyone real.

The movie is based very loosely on John Holmes.

The scene was actually Mark Wahlberg. He wore a prosthetic to get the "effect".
 
The ONLY part of it I've seen was like the last minute or so, just in time to see the prosthetic... I walked in at the wrong time 🙁

The Sister Christian scene with the cocaine guy and the Asian firecracker guy was SO surreal. That's my favorite non-nudity scene 😀
