Just returned from Star Wars...

I went in with low expectations, but I left satisfied... mostly. It was very exciting. The visual effects were captivating. The audio was awesome. The plot was neat and tidy, a little too neat and tidy; everything wraps up neatly, but I'm not going to nitpick specifics.

My single greatest complaint was the quality of the acting. It was truly horrendous. Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman were laughably bad. Yes, I realize the dialogue was bad to begin with, but those two actors couldn't pull it off.

In the end I wasn't blown away or anything. It didn't move me the way the original trilogy did when I was a child, but there's the rub: I'm not a child. This movie, and the two before it, are for kids. I watched two young children and they were loving every minute of it. These movies are for kids.

It was exciting and I felt I got my money's worth. I'd rate it a B-.

I don't know. Yes these prequels were definitely aimed at children, considering the Jar Jar Binks and the two-headed sports commentator during the pod race, and the first Sith looked like he was wearing halloween paint, etc.

But the original trilogy was definitely an adult film.

its not bad acting its bad directing and script writing. Pretty much impossible to act in those circumstances.

No, no; it's really bad acting amplified by a bad script and lazy directing.

I just recently got back from it too and agree things were wrapped up maybe too neat and tidy, but it atleast gives meaning to why Episode 2 was such a love story. Overall I really enjoyed it and was captivated by the bells and whistles of course, but sadly the acting was a little bland at times. Definately takes the cake as being the best of the 3 prequiels by far, and was maybe even a better ending to a series then Return of the Jedi was.

I disagree. I thought they acted really well for the most part. The love scenes were a bit painful, but I attribute that to the lines more than the actors.

Honestly, I this most of this whole "the acting was horrendous" attitude is a holdover from the first two, where the acting really was terrible. If you watch closely, the characters actually do pull off most of the subtleties and inflections you'd expect in real life.

My friend said something a few weeks ago that made a lot of sense to me: If you secretly filmed somebody's daily life and managed to present it as a movie, a lot of people would probably claim that he/she is a bad actor.

No, the acting sucked. Watch the scene where Padme tells Anakin she's preggers. I've never seen such terrible acting.

Why isn't there anyone talking about the timeline of Padme's pregnancy. At the beginning of the movie she wasn't showing when she told Anakin that she was pregnant. At the lava planet she was barely showing...then at the end when she had to have an emergency birth, those babies came out full size...not preemies.

Yeah that was bad, in my theater people were laughing at that.

I was almost expecting him to say "its not mine," or something to that effect.

After we got back from watching the movie I showed my girlfriend the Clone Wars cartoon and it was pretty sad because we both agreed that it would have made a better movie. Less droid goofyness, better dialogue and good story.

don't let NFS4 see you say that about Portman's acting.

Actually, you should PM him the thread. 😀

After she told him "I'm pregnant..." there was a long silent dramatic pause and someone in the theater yelled, "with Chewbacca's baby!"

you do realize they are not "humans" as they are from a long time ago in a galaxy far far away? However, I'm sure someone somewhere has written a thrilling documentary on the gestation of humaniods in star wars...

i went to a screening on tuesday and i left the theater feeling like they were just scrambling to bridge the gap between ep 1 and 2 and 4, 5 and 6. All in all it was a decent movie though. I guess lowering our expectations in EP1 and 2 finally had a positive effect. The saber battles were good and the space battles were decent. The CG work was top-notch. The script was alright Hayden's acting was decent at times but horrendous overall. I'd give it a 7/10.

Yeah I know, but say the timeframe of the movie was a couple of weeks, I doubt the gestation period of any humanoid is less than a month.

My daughter is at the theater watching that movie right now. I'll be shocked if she likes it. My guess is that she'll go watch another movie 20 minutes into it.

The blame for those scenes goes on lucas. You cant tell me you now think less of natalie portman or hayden christensen as actors because of how poorly they were in those roles.

Face it, those two aren't exactly Grant & Hepburn.

Hell, they're not even Hilton & Kutcher.
