Just reformatted (twice!) and after installing chipset, audio, and wireless drivers, computer freezes after ~1 minute...

So I did a complete reformat and clean install of Windows XP yesterday, installed nVidida chipset, audio, and DirectX 9.0c drivers (rebooted when asked). Installed the Linksys wireless drivers for the wireless card I have installed, rebooted. Now the computer freezes after about a minute of use! I repeated the format/install process twice, and the same problem arises. I don't believe it's an overheating problem, as when I have the fresh install of Windows, it seems to run just fine. So I assume it's something I've installed... Leaning towards the wireless drivers because the entire wireless driver install went fine and it's the last thing I installed... But before the format, I was using the wireless card/drivers and had no problems.

The CD drive isn't working very well, but I assume that's unrelated as that was happening before the format (I think the drive is going bad).

Can anyone help me here? Why would the wireless drivers be causing my computer to completely lock up?

Thanks for any help!

It could be the drivers, have you tried just running the machine for a while with just the chipset drivers to see if everything is okay? Have you checked the temperature with some type of temperature application? Have you tested your RAM?

No, no, and no.

I believe the chipset drivers are okay... It just seems I was using the computer for longer than I could have if the freezing problem was there.

Haven't checked temperature because I can't do anything for more than a minute without it freezing. Same with RAM.

How can I uninstall the Linksys stuff before it freezes up?

Alright, well I booted up in safemode without networking, uninstalled the Linksys wireless drivers, rebooted normally, and the system still locks up. I guess now I'm going to try and remove the RealTek audio drivers and see what happens...

If anyone else has any suggestions please let me know!

Move your Wireless card to another slot.

I'm pretty sure you have an IRQ resource conflict.

The wireless card worked fine just where it was before I reformatted.

I actually am having some success right now. I uninstalled everything except for the wireless drivers and the computer didn't freeze up at all and I could still access the internet. I downloaded the VNF4 Ultra drivers off of the internet, but don't really know how to install them. Windows update also started downloading a bunch of stuff, so I decided to do that, install the updates, and then try installing the chipset drivers once again from the CD...

It's definitely an issue with the chipset drivers. After I installed them and rebooted, the lockups came back. Now I just have to figure out how to uninstall them before it locks up and also how to install the drivers I downloaded off of the internet...

I'm sure someone here can help me with that now that we know what's causing the lockups!

For the VNF4 drivers you should be able to extract them and then go into Device Manager, find your Chipset in the selections, and navigate to the Drivers for them.
There, you should have an option to update your Drivers.

I was under the impression it was a new wireless card.
It still might be worth double checking to set that your not sharing IRQ's with something you shouldn't be while you're in the Device Manager.
