Ditched ComCast becuz of price hike ($45 to $57), and finnally recieved my DSL modem kit which I ordered last wednesday. The yahoo install cd sure installed a bunch of crap I don't need, prolly need to clean up later, so far my d/l and u/l speeds are about the same as my Cable. At $45 a month I'm happy. (too bad the black DSL modem didnt come in blue so it'd match my tower😉)

edit: found something I dun like, I have to wait 2-3 minute at desktop everytime I bootup for the modem to intialize so I can connect🙁. I have two friends that have the same modem as I do, is anyone else expierencing the same prob with a diff modem? (using effecient network speedstream)

You are lucky enough to be close to the CO or RT. Alot of people aren't as fortunate, myself being one of the unfortunates. I'd get REALLY crappy speeds (<256Kbps down) but still have to pay $45 a month. :| I'm happy with my broadband cable. I'm paying ~$75/m for a 1.5Mbps down/128Kbps up connection but I don't give a sh!t! I just want some speed! And Yahoo! DSL (SBC is the phone company) couldn't give it to me. :|

cool
i use sbc yahoo too, speeds are pretty good
if u have windows xp u dont need to install all the bloatware yahoo software
just use the default pppoe dialer and ur all set

i am not sure (never used pos WindowsME), but i dont think so
coz even in win 2k i had to use the enternet pppoe client

Here is the answer to both questions you asked:

The delay is because it is looking for an IP address, go into your network settings, open the protocal "TCP/IP - Your Network Card" , Properties, IP Address, Specify an IP address, set the top box to "192.168.1.1" and the bottom one to "255.255.255.0", select OK, then OK again, reboot, problem fixed😀

Use this program instead of all the junk they setup.

Also, try System Mechanic to tweak your speed. It is the best method I have found, lol

Have fun and enjoy,

WTT

cool, Ive got the same problem as human2k with the speedstream modem. Ill try this method in a couple of days.

Like pillage2001, Im also paying $29.99/mo for 768/128. I max out at around 650-700 downloading

im in tokyo right now and Yahoo BB (Yahoo japan broad band) is litterally throwing 12MBit DSL modems at people outside the train stations....

every single major train station in tokyo has anywhere from 2 to 12 people hawking the yahoo bb service

aparantly they are signing up 50,000 people a month

oh yah its totally unlimited/restricted and all for 24 bucks (US) a month.

😛 lesson #2. make a ghost image of your CLEAN system before ever installing dsl service discs for sign up. they are necessary but install a pile of useless and annoying cr@p on your system. removal is not fun. so install it, get your login info setup. restore ghost image. use clean windows with dsl.

i was happy i did this. sbc loaded some horrible cr@p on my system. luckily i knew it was going to happen and prepared.

that being said, my router keeps the connection alive. no waiting at all🙂

why not get the info of all your servers and crap, remove all that bs software. and just type in the ip's manually? should keep things clean and will work just as well.
im switching to fiber now, 50 bucks month 10mbit =D, beats that comcast crap for sure

Just recieved Yahoo SBC DSL setup kit = Britney Spears just installed my spy camera in her bedroom for me.
