As some of you might remember, some guy who i built a computer for his girlfriend was threatening to sue me if i didnt fix it the exact day he wanted (LINK) Well i decided to cut off all contact with him last week. Today i recieved the following email

Hi Josh

Thank you for confirming what I all ready knew. I told Kristen when she told me about you that you would screw her over and I warned her about this. Now she knows you are a real piece of sh*t. And as you know if you were in my place you would defend your girl friend. The diffence is I don't get mad I get even. I have a lot of friends in low
places. I know you moved in with your girl friend I know were she lives and half the crew you worked with I know and they now work for me. So enjoy things I will be making your life total hell. today is Tuesday if I don't here from by Friday the lost you will have will not be worth it to. And the bad thing you will never know were it comes from I am a very sick person when it comes to things like that I am 48 years old. I am not a kid that dose not know how to be responsible. I promise that all you friends family will know.

Good Luck you need it
Garry

He not only sent this email directly from his Bellsouth.net account, but he even had his new company name as the From Line... I have all headers and have saved the email...

See what is exactly wrong with the computer. Tell them what it will cost to fix over the phone, not right there.

If nothing else, report a threat...

Call the police in your town and his. Now. Have them send an officer out, and show them a copy of the email. Failing that, bring the email to the station tomorrow. Hopefully it's all talk, but you can NEVER be too careful. The sooner it's reported, the sooner it can be taken care of.

Well if anything happens, you pretty much have hard evidence against him. I'm sorry dude, that sucks.

It sounds like a lot of hot air coming from a moron.

I can see how you would be kinda wary though.

bring it into the police... a threatening email like that is just as valid as a phone call. you can show that he has motive, and you have the backing of the ATOTers, as you've basically documented the situation online for thousands to see

I am 48 years old. I am not a kid that dose not know how to be responsible.

I would ask if he understood the concept of an oxymoron, but somehow I don't think he does.

Anyway, two options call the jackass and try to work out why he's a retard or let the cops know what Mr. Personality is up to.

Yes, contact the police.

This guy sounds like a f*cking freak.

Perhaps report this to the ISP too?

You would think a 48 year old would know better.

Definately print it out, save it to a disk and call the police and make a report. Maybe even get a restraining order on this guy. He is, as he says, "48 years old" and is not a kid anymore. I would take the threat seriously and take all precationary measures to keep myself safe. Do you own a gun? If not, I think now would be a good time to buy one (if you are of age).

hmmm. this is serious. I was one of the posters that asked you not to pay anything to this dip$hit and ignore him. But now, I think if it is really worth it. There are some real asshats like these people that do not know what they are doing. If you go to the cops with the emails, they won't do anything.

Hmm, I have quite a few connections in Florida in, I guess what this guy calls it, "low places". I'm sure he's just bullsh!tting you though, but if you are scared call the police... or me ;) :p

call the cops? it's not like you have any sort of obligation to repair his gf's pc... unless, of course, there was some sort of contract that stated that you did :)

sounds like a really sh*tty situation, if you break down and do it, you'll be his geek bi*ch for as long as you know him. what he sent has got to be some sort of a threat.. (maybe?) keep us updated :)

Jeez, I wonder if anyone has ever been shot over refusing to fix a guy's computer. I'd stick with calling the cops...but if you're so inclined, a gun is a VERY expensive way to maintain your safety. However, there's no time for classes/training sessions, so I'd recommend that you just forget about a firearm for now.

He has already broken the law. Copy the E-mail and press charges.

i would send him a letter via registered mail stating your position on the PC issue and let him know that if he threatens you again, you will take it to the police

he needs to take you to small claims court if he really thinks he has a case, from reading the thread the other day, he wouldn't win in SCC, and he probably knows that , which is why he has resorted to threats

good luck

LOL!! Why don't things like this ever happen to me? I would have loved to call him and personally tell him to go fvck himself. A 48-year-old who thinks (and apparently spells) like a teenager... how sad is that? Anyway, i wouldn't worry about it, nothing's gonna happen. He can't take you to court because he has nothing on paper from you that promises warranty, and even if he does, the worst thing that can happen is you'll have to buy a new motherboard. But don't forget that you do have this email, and you if you want, you can hire a lawyer and sue his ass hard for threatening you. So once again, he's obviously not overly bright. If i were you, i would be VERY DIRECT about this. Call him, be very CLEAR, very RUDE and very BRIEF. Keep the call under 15 seconds - no reason to waste your time. And don't forget: have FUN with it!
