This is my first LCD and it looks amazing, even though I'm only using the analog/vga input. No dead pixels, I can't tell if there's any other problems but so far it seems good. Played some World of Warcraft and tested watching a dvd, both perfect.

So since Dell is hiding the panel types for their new screens I'll post a pic of my OSD which includes Dell's little code thingy... not sure whether it's GU116 or V8C01.

OSD Menu with Dell's panel code

Maybe someone working at Dell can figure out who made this panel? 6-bit or 8-bit?

Enjoy it :D

shouldnt be

i heard it was the exact same panel as the 2007, the only differences being no USB hub and a few connections such as S-vid or comp in were missing, and possibly some adjustability in the stand but i dont know

but other than that, it should be one of the panels you expect to get in the 2007's and it should have a HDCP enabled DVI port

xtnight should be able to confirm the panel type for you, PM him if you like

It's a 6-bit TN. That's confirmed by the 160/160 viewing angle spec and also by the fact that it's so inexpensive.

I personally don't believe the specs until I see the monitor in person. I find that some monitors actually have better viewing angle than stated compared to others that have a higher advertised viewing angles. It didn't matter which brand it was.

I just purchased mine and I hate it, Maybe it is my eyes or something but on every screen I see like a small pixel popup and not go away quick enough. I can not explain it but for instance an IE window loads and you can see the pixels make the color. I do not know what it is but I guess I could make a movie of it. Sort of aggervated with the whole thing but eh well.

It is like my laptop made by Acer, like a cheap screen it seems.

Well mine came earlier and I must say I am very pleased. I looks amazing and everything is very crisp. So much more desk space now both on the screen and off. ;)

Piktar

I did a white to black gradiant(1680x1050) in Photoshop and did see banding. It wasn't too visible from the seating postion but when I leaned in and got close it was definitely there. It also seemed to have a red hue to it but I was on the red scale so that could have been it.

There is visible back light bleed on black/dark backgrounds:

Gaming wise WOW looks amazing as well as HL2. I have noticed some flicker but I believe it is because my current setup is having a really hard time pushing the native rez. Currently I have :
Unlocked 6800nu(128mb)
1gb PC3200
2500+ Athlon @ 2.2ghz

I've got new parts coming is so in the next week or so(baring any last minute purchases or swaps) I should have:
7900GTO
1gb PC3200
FX-55

Over all I love it and I'll try to keep this post updated with my findings.

Zstream, I haven't experienced the pixel pop you have described. Maybe you got a bad unit?

That's the 2x2 dithering of the Samsung TN panel. I agree, I see the same thing on my Samsung 710t and it's annoying. :Q I don't know why they don't just use FRC. It's far less annoying and even unnoticeable in a lot of cases (except dark colors).

awww damn I was actually going to send you a PM wandering why it does that but well you explained it :)

Why would they even use 2x2 dithering if it has no current benefits or am I wrong on saying that?

They have to dither to achieve 16.2M colors. 2x2 dithering is probably cheaper than FRC by a few cents. ;) I don't even know if any Samsung TNs use FRC but I know AU Optronics TNs do. Maybe they could get Samsungs for cheaper.

My first LCD (BenQ 19") did that, but only in the upper left part of the screen. I got used to it pretty quick, though. I noticed it a lot more with the DVI connection versus the VGA connection, so I used the VGA connection for a while when I first started using it. The 4 LCDs I've gotten since then have been better in this regard, and my current LCD doesn't do it.

I get the same backlight bleed at the top and bottom shown in SithSolo1's photo.

One thing I am a little disappointed about is the lack of rotatability. When I purchased it I thought only the stand could not rotate but now I know that you have to view the screen with your eye level starting from a little above the middle to the top of the screen. Which sucks cause I'd have to look at the screen from the right or the left depending which way I rotate the screen =(.
