I just went to four LAN parties in the past four weeks and the first one was the only good one since people played the games I like and the people were friendly. The other three just blew a fat cock. I now officially hate LAN parties. They're for the hardcore gamer who can stand playing the same game/level for hours doing nothing but that. It's so monotonous and boring that I just can't believe it.
I even think QuakeCon would suck. I mean, what the hell is there to do? Just sit around and play games with competitive geeks who have poor spelling, a shallow personality, and an arrogant attitude. At the last LAN party I was at, uG-LAN 2003, the staff was a bunch of dicks who wouldn't even start a conversation with you and were very mean in-game. Out of the 25 that attended, I met two nice people who introduced themselves and spurred a pleasant conversation.
At LAN parties, I've never felt so shallow and distant from emotion; trying to achieve the best feeling through gaming for hours straight while stuffing food down my throat and pressing keys. Yep, I'm completely against LAN parties now spare one: {SNA}. They are the only people that put together a friendly, clean, fun environment for LANs that wasn't excessive in people or gaming.
LAN party? No thanks.
