Just Realized I Lost All My Music...

i recently reformatted... thought i backed everything up, music included. i had it all organized in my itunes folder.

well, when i went to check the itunes folder, all the band folders were there with their album forlders, but no mp3 files in any of the folders...

i just lost a ton of music...

now i've gotta rebuild my library 🙁

uuuuuggggggh....
 
I always keep a backup. If my primary HDD and backup were to fail, I would have to rip all my CDs again (I refuse to pay for mp3s).
 
Before rebuilding download a data recovery program and give it a try. During a format information isn't destroyed, as long as it's not overwritten it's still there.
 
For the stuff you bought from iTunes you might now be able to re-download it. The latest changes to the iTunes license allow the user to download to multiple registered computers directly from iTunes. Look at the downloads link in the iTunes store.

yeah... i downloaded music from itunes... that's what i did... :sneaky:

i guess everything will be ok now...

No sympathy here...you're complaining that you have to resteal music that you didn't pay for...wow what a terrible life that must be.

actually he didn't at all say that, he just said it wasn't purchased through itunes, it could have been purchased through any of the other online services or ripped himself from CDs he owns. he simply used itunes to manage his music

Why is nobody quoting this? Seriously, a simple format should be recoverable, I'm sure you'll be able to get at least most of your shit back.
 
google music is pretty sweet.

anyway, OP that sucks donkey balls. I know someone that happened to and they lost a lot of stuff they had ripped from CDs. after they had put the music in itunes, they got rid of the cds. so it really is gone =(
