Just read the review on the new fx. Anyone else think that Nvidia thinks were dumb?

Its not that Nvidia is trying to screw us. They gotta know that they couldn't trash the 9700. But what are they gonna do, shelf their FX. They gotta release it, and try to recover some R&D costs. I am confident that their name will still sell boatloads of chips. Even if they cant, they got enough bank to carry them into the next generation.

nothing wrong with this thread funboy. it is a free country after all, and I agree with many of your opinions.

VIVA ATI!

Wow this is an odd thread.

As for the FX I agree partly with you funboy. There are problems with it. Like you said its:
Loud
Hot
Unclockable <-- not 100% sure on this because I don't remember reading anything about someone overclocking it.
--------------- Although with it already running so hot I would not expect much more out of it.
Space Hog POS <---- I do not agree with the POS part. The card performs well enough to stay on par with the
-------------------------- Radion 9700 for the most part.

I do not believe the problems listed above will be fixed by the time the card is on the shelf.

I am not sure why some of you think his is bashing Nvidia. He is bashing the FX, but part of that is understood. Some people expected the FX to meet all the hype. I on the other hand I did not. What I expected was the FX to be similar to the Radion 9700 if not a small bit faster. I was even let down when the performance gap was even smaller than I had expected. On top of that the card runs hot and loud.

Just because I don't like the FX does not mean I don't like Nvidia or their other cards. Personally I think the Geforce 4 line was and is great.

This is in no way the end for Nvidia. The "fanboys" and such will buy up the card like its money. They will read the review that says the FX is faster and be happy with it. Others will buy the card simply because they are anti ATI. Well good for both of them. These types of people (from both camps ATI and Nvidia) keep the companies afloat. This keeps competition up. Which keeps prices down and performance up. So in the end I get a great card for a decent price.

Not to mention the Geforce 4 series is still a great value and that is where Nvidia gets it money from.

Absolutely! nVidia screwed up big time. They have become too complacent about thier new cards and, as a result, ATI will become the largest videocard company in the world very soon.

Here's what nVidia shoulda done:

8-pixel pipeline with at least 2 texture units per
256-bit memory interface for 32GB/second of bandwidth

If they had done the above nVidia woulda regained its crown. Now, they are folling behind more and more and that's too bad.

Sure, they could have done that. But do you really want to spend $600 on a graphics card? Didn't think so...

I think *a lot* of people here should reserve judgement until both launch and the next driver update. Anand felt that the card was being held back by the drivers in his article, and I believe that to be true. I'm an ATI guy myself, but I can't stand fanboys going around trashing other products for no reason.
