Just ran 3Dmark2001se

I got 3940 3D marks. I can't even believe I scored that low.

Hardware -
P4 socket 423 1.5ghz 400mhz FSB - 512 RDRAM 800mhz - Geforce2 Ultra - I have shitty dell drivers, but it's because everytime I install any of the detonator drivers I get endless amounts of .drv errors when I open anything. So I just said the hell with it. I have directx 8.1. I'm guessing my computer is bottlenecking VERY badly. Because I shouldn't score that low with this type of hardware? Or should I? Obviously I'm a novice, so I could use some advice.

1) Dont worry about your 3dmark score. It means zip.

2) do any of your games run sluggish? thats a better indicator.

Get a program called detonator destroyer, and then install a solid set of drivers. I believe I'm using 40.72.

After that, if your games are still buggin, and your 3dmark hasnt improved, you will have at least eliminated the driver issue.

look to install different versions of the detonators, find one that works for you...

You should be getting a much better score than that with that hardware.

with my setup (p4 1.8 + geforce 2 ti) I get around 5000 3dmarks, so yea your score is a little low...drivers should help, also overclocking the card could help a little too...also eliminate extra programs and stuff with msconfig, perhaps even reinstall your OS, especially if its got a bunch of Dell Bloatware on it

Used to have same setup, heres my score: 4720 3dmarks
Also, I used the Detonator drivers and had no problems with my Dell. I found the best ones to be 28.32 and 29.42. Try overclocking your graphics card too, you'll get alot more performance. I used coolbits.

Well for that hardware setup, those are the expected scores. Don't worry about it, 3DMark is only a benchmark.

Wow, thanks alot guys for all the posts. I'm not worried in the least. I'm a quake3 RA3 whore. And this computer runs q3a at 250fps so heh I could careless about the benchmark. However, I thought I would score higher. I thought perhaps something was malfunctioning in my computer or something. Heck I forgot the guys nick, but he said he had my same computer, I checked, and it's Exactly the same thing. Dell 8100 fully decked out 'at the time'. But he got 4700ish compared to my 3900ish by simply changing his video card drivers. That's pretty spiffy.. Maybe I'll go give those dets a try again :\

Nah, its fine, 3dmark2k1 is a DX8 benchmark, and gives heavy points to advanced features like hardware T&L features and pixel shaders.

scores could be at least a 1000 points better, but im sure you have to tweak it to its fullest. and the geforce 2 ultra is gonna be the main bottleneck.

The GeForce 2 Ultra is Direct X 7.0 hardware, whereas 3dmark2001 is a heavily direct X 8 benchmark.

You guys sure know alot about video cards. I have a question though. I tried uninstalling the video card from /control panel/system/display adapter/ right. then I rebooted, only for some reason Win ME automatically installs the drivers I had. So how do I bypass this? I want to make it standard VGA so I can install the detonator drivers fresh :\

I never knew that a chipset can be made obsolete simply because microsoft releases a new version of directx. That's pretty important information if you ask me heh..Showdown, what video card do you think will work best with my system? I'm looking at an ATI 9500 pro. The one with the ram that forms a L around the gpu/fan.. Not the shitty one.. Would that release my bottleneck?

The way I got rid of nVidia drivers was to look for any files starting with nv in Windows\Inf and maybe the \Other subdirectory there, and also in Windows\system. That can of course be a bit risky, cause there could be other files that start with nv that aren't nVidia files; I've not yet encountered any though. Actually, to play it safe on that, don't delete them, just cut and paste them somewhere else. That way, there'll be no remnants of the drivers left where Windows knows to look, and if something goes wrong, you can probably just boot to Safe Mode and copy them back.
Geez, just thinking that through, and that does leave registry entries linked to the files that'll be missing. Two options:
Regcleaner - it'll clean out a lot of the junk in the registry. I use it and have had no problems with it.
Or
Detonator Destroyer. I've never actually used this though, so I can not attest to its safety or functionality. It seems that it's not been updated since November of last year, so it might not support full removal of the new Detonators.

Oh, your 3dmarks - they are highly dependent on what quality settings you are using. A lot of the super-insanely high scores you see were probably done at the absolute lowest quality settings, where everything looks like utter crap, but it does give good framerates. I benchmark with settings I'd use in games.

I've done this on all my friends computers, just remove it from the system, then reboot and install the new stuff. Works fine with thier computers. Why is win me so gay !$#@( :disgust:

There must be a way of rebooting with a "standard VGA" driver. So I can run the det.exe..
You guys know everything, so you must know something this simple..

Try going to the properties of the video card (in device manager) - go to Driver, then hit uninstall.

Win Me doesn't have this option.. I saw in add/remove programs there was a deal that said windows Nvidia display drivers, I went to add remove it said that I couldn't remove it. That I could only remove it from the list. So apparently that was the remnants of the dets I installed that kept causing all the strange errors. Please you guys, one of you has to know how to bypass win me's gayness. Doesn't even give me the option, just says, "Updating drivers for this device as needed" Boom, fucx0red.
