Just put my dog down

He was 15 years old. He has had pancrititis, something that makes him real sick and unable to take in fluids. He doesn't want to eat, drink or move. We take him in the vet, they hold him for a few days, rehydrate him and nurse him back to health. These episodes have been coming at an increasing rate. So last night we decided it was best to put him down.

The vet came to our house. We said our good byes and she injected him with an overdose of a Anesthetic. Whole process took about a minute and a half....

Sorry OP 🙁

Putting down a pet is always terrible. Take solace in knowing that your friend isn't suffering anymore and be sure to remember the good times.

My condolences.
Canine pancreatitis is "the other upset stomach" for dogs...and is usually caused, unknowingly by well-meaning people who feed table scraps and such to their pets.
We almost lost one of ours to it several years ago.

:rose:

Has the look of a really great dog. I'm sorry for your loss.

I had to put mine down 18 months ago and still think about him every day.

One of the hardest and most heart-rending decisions we pet owners have to face, OP.

He looks like he was a really good guy. Sorry for your loss. :'(

Sorry for your lose OP, but at least the dog is not suffering anymore.

I feed my wifes wiener dog table scraps and chocolate all the time, and it will not die. What am I doing wrong? This thing is 15 years old, has 3 legs, almost blind, almost deaf,,,,,, but it wont die.

Sorry to hear that. :'(

We had to put our dog down back in February. She was with us for over 12 years...we got her when she was just a pup (4 months old) from the local shelter. Still makes me sad to think about her. :'🙂'🙂'(

You did the right thing. It's really hard to have so much control over another being's life, but it takes a lot of bravery and selflessness to realize that their quality of life is suffering.

I put my dog down three years ago and I still think about him daily. My condolences.

If it helps the OP or others I had to put mine down two months ago. I actually felt good as we were there when vet gave injection. The look on her face/eyes was one of "thank you". She was mentally just fine, but body wasn't cooperating.

Did he have cataracts too? His eyes look a bit cloudy in that pic.

Either way, my condolences. He lived a long life.
