Just purchased this fairly newer Dell Inspiron 15 5000 5566 - 15.6" HD Touch - Core i3-7100U - 6GB Ram - 1TB HDD, and it runs pretty slow.

I just purchased this Dell Inspiron 15 5000 5566 (15.6" HD Touch - Core i3-7100U - 6GB Ram - 1TB HDD), and even after doing a clean installed of Windows 10, and doing Windows updates, the laptop still runs pretty slow.

I looked up the CPU benchmark test for the Core i3-7100U, and was surprised to find out that it only has a, Single Thread Rating: 1124.

I expected that benchmark to be much higher for a 7th Gen Core I CPU, even though it is only a Core i3, because I have had 3rd Gen Intel Core I CPU laptops that scored higher then that.

For example, here is a mobile Core i3 CPU that came installed in laptops that were around 4 years older, from the 3rd Gen Core i CPU's, and that 3rd Gen Core i CPU has a higher Single Thread Benchmark then the 7th Gen Core i3 CPU that is in my current laptop.

So, for some reason, I could have purchased a 2013 Core i3 (from the 3rd Generation of Core I CPU's) laptop, and got a faster laptop out of it.

I guess if I max out the memory to 16GB, and install a good Samsung SSD, then this laptop should be much faster hopefully.

Still a pretty slow CPU benchmark though, sadly.

The ram and SSD will definitely improve the experience. On the upside, you get a 15W part instead of 35W part and better iGPU. But yeah, not being able to turbo up to 3GHz+ is a bummer.

Yeah, I assume that the lower benchmark score has to do with the CPU only being 15w. The higher wattage CPU's get a much higher benchmark. I do not even care about battery life. Just want a powerful home computer. Was also hoping I could upgrade the screen to a 1080p display, but there is no option for that, so stuck with the 1366x768 display. Thanks for your reply.
