Just Purchased an Opteron 165 Dual Core, What HSF?

Hello.

I just jumped on the monarch special on the opterons 165 dual cores. They are OEM so I need to purchase a decent HSF for overclocking. Im looking for something in the 30$ range so I dont ruin the deal I received.

I haven't shopped for these in a while but so far the best i've found is this

Zalman HSF

Problem is its 49.99. Anyone know if this is the real deal and if I can find somewhere else for cheaper?

If not anything perform close to this and is around 30$? Let me know your HSF deals!

Thanks

Eddie

that zalman is a fab hsf, but make sure it fits on your board...
$49.99 seems to be what it retails for around the board.

xp-90 for $28 is a good deal, + $3 for a fan.

I got an xp-90 on my ~ 1 week old Opteron 165. It runs great. 1.30 volts at 2.6 GHz stable for about 4 days now. It POSTs at 2.8 but doesn't do much more than that. I think it'll probably do 2.7, but really, 2.6 is plenty. 🙂

Thanks for your replies.

I guess the xp-90 it is. What fan do you guys suggest. Im looking at svc.com at the panaflo hydrowave 90x25mm fan that does 48cfm at 30db. Also what ram are you running silver to get to 2.6. Are those pc4000 gold oc's any good. Im probably going to pair this up with the dfi board.

Thanks

Eddie

Go with the PC4000 2GB kit from G.SKILL (the one with black heatspreaders)
Go with a Scythe Ninja Pro or Sunbeam Tuniq Tower 120 for CPU heatsink

What about the 7700AlCu? It's $10 cheaper and cools almost as well. It's not as heavy as the Cu version, either.

depends, what stepping did you get?

CCBWE 0xxx xxPW on the chip

I may be able to tell you what kind of voltage you'll need, but if you're serious about air cooling you'll want the big typhoon. I've used the ninja, xp-90c and zalman products.
