Just played Dune 2 for the first time!

Not bad for the first ever RTS game that came out in 1992. While it doesn't have actual videos like C&C did it does have voice narration. :thumbsup:

Our harvesters are made out of big blue balloons!

I want a new, completely new, Dune game.

Dune was at least one of the first if not the first RTS by the general definition, but it didn't quite kick off the genre to the high fame it reached, C&C did that.

Unfortunately that hasn't happened again with any new game type since FPSes took over the entire world and beat down everybody else.

Ok I just got into Toonstruck and it's the coolest fvcking game. Has Christopher Loydd in it. I forgot how much fun it was. I never beat it. I lost all my old saved games and when my old 486 died. 🙁 Never beat monkey island either. Just got that working.......

Herzog Zwei.

And for those that think Dune 2's garbage, think about the time and place. I doubt there would've been a half the number of RTS games since then if Dune 2 never came to be.

No Dune 2 -> No Command & Conquer -> No C&C copies/spawns/clones

(Still cursing the EA buyout of Westwood)

I loved both of those games, damn I wasted a lot of HS nights playing that until 3AM in the morning hehe. That and Civilization.

gah, i remember using the modem..the cr@ppy ass modem for 1v1 games. ah the early early days of mp games. primitive as f*ck🙂 getting connection...not fun. dune2 was kewl, but warcraft blew it away.

hahah, oh wow it looked sooooooooooooooooooo much better in memory

still one of the best games ever, and the soundtrack, just wow

the sad bit is that company stuck with that interface.. out of pride or something after blizzard came out with their superior rts.

I hate the interface of Warcraft and its children and cousins. The original C&C interface was the best I've seen. I hate having to go through menus/sub-items to locate what I want to make. I just think they're too complex to be fun, since I get beat up while I try to find where to make a new soldier.

I play turn-based now. I'm getting old.

Ah man, brings back good memories. I was in Jr. High I believe, when I'd visit my friend's place to play some Herzog Zwei on the Sega Genesis. I think it was the first game I ever played against a person that required strategy and was fairly complex. Then came Dune 2, loved that game too, especially when you have tons of time in high school and found out all the special angles of attack and stuff so you could hit guys without being hit back. Same angle of attack as Command and Conquer... ah the good days.

I remember rushing home from school so we'd hit the modems and play each other at C&C.
