Just played Battlefield 1942 demo for the first time

Is this thing just another HL mod? It's pretty much DoD with vehicles. *shrug*

That's what I'm thinking. It doesn't even have my main resolution (1280x1024) so it looks like crap. (I have an LCD, so I have to play at 1280x1024 to make it even look good.)

What 3d engine does it use?

I don't think Half-life mods have this kinda open enviroment, the maps are huge, vehicals are sweet and when you get enough good players on one server the action has no equal. I love the game can't wait for the release!!

No. The graphics easily beat DoD. Runs excellent for me at 1280x1024. I've yet to see a half life mod with vehicles 1/4 as good as the ones in battlefield 1942. Furthermore, bf42 supports 64 players, half life does not. Also, like daxxax said, Half Life can't even approach the scale of map available in bf42. Some game maps are 4 times as large as the demo map.

I wouldn't compare this to any HL mod. The vehicles make the game much more balanced. The graphics blow away DoD. It takes a monster machine to run though.

I have a feeling this will be the "killer game" that forces a lot of people to upgrade. Till now no one's needed anything more than a geforce3 unless they wanted AA.

It doesn't run on my comp. When I launch it, a black window pops up and closes immediately. The log file contains a message of something along the lines of "couldn't build video mode." I've heard that in Win XP, the demo locks in you at 60Hz, but I used a refresh rate fix program to fix my lowest refresh rate to 100 Hz. I guess that's why it doesn't work. Shitty programmers.

did you install and read the patch? it fixes that

DUDE, the official release isnt until saturday. Yeah, a few stores may have it but that doesnt mean its official nor widely available.

I'm pretty sure they bumped the official release to Friday.... (at least thats what Gamespot and Bluesnews are saying)

I know their site says the 14th but I bet everywhere will have it tomorrow

I played the full version tonight and it's amazing. I played it at the local gaming center on an LAN. I had to leave after about 2 hours of it but I could have played it all night

yeah they are huge.... its impossible to get anywhere without vehicles.....

So does the retail version have a resolution of 1280x1024? I'm not able to select it in the demo.

I just checked the demo and noticed how it went from the 11xx res to the 1600 res, without the 1280 res. Thats kind of odd. Never noticed it before because my video card (soon to be replaced) could barely handle 640x480.
