Oh, and if you think I'm some dumb kid, I already graduated from UCLA two years ago, and am on my way to a Masters degree.

I find it surprising that the majority of the replies to your thread are telling you to NOT buy chrome, and yet when you find yourself outnumbered you resort to calling people immature. How very eloquent of you.

Look, it's better to have us flame you semi-anonymously over the internet than have people point and laugh at you rolling your bling-bling car on the street.

And if you don't think I know what I'm talking about, when I bought my car in 1998 I put almost $10,000 in mods into the car, and it was shown at the CEC booth at SEMA in 1998, so I think I have a little bit of credit in the aesthetics department when it comes to modifying cars.

But you know what? In the end, it doesn't matter. Buy what you want. We all have our opinions, and if you want chrome, go buy it. Check out tirerack.com or discounttire.com. They have some good selections on chrome (or non-chrome wheels). Also Audiforum has a links page with wheel dealers.

Understand this: The next time you try to back up an argument with your credit score, be aware that it doesn't mean crap. The fact that you're buying a used A4 (market value $12,000 or so, right?) tells us exactly where your money lies. If you're all that rich, why used? Why not a new A4?

Good luck in the future. Please don't come to our club events.

Things that don't make sense with your post....

1. you bought the A4 in 98 in cash which I will conceed is a good idea as the interest rates were very high at the time, however in 04 you bought an IS300 also in cash? for someone getting a masters it doesn't strike me as that bright considering int rates are so low on new car purchases and the money you spent in cash could have been invested and netted you a much better return than dumping it into a high depreciation purchase such as a car. Also you mention that you spent over 10k in modifications on the 98A4, I guess a fool and his money but personally I would not be bragging about this since one sees little to no return on heavy modifications to any car unless it is a classic, this is comming from someone who knows as I have dumped more than double that into a few cars and would never consider it again, I would just hope someone going for their masters is smart enough to know that before hand, or just has enough disposable income that they wouldn't have to brag about it on an internet forum.

2. You are essentially telling this guy that he should listen to the opinion of the majority, become just another sheep and do what people here tell him to do instead of that which he wants? hey if the guy wants chrome wheels let him get his wheels and maybe if you have something constructive to add then chime in, but if you are just going to bash him for his personal taste then what is the point of wasting both yours and his time with posting? makes little sense to me but then again you have the masters so it must be the right thing to do....

3. Also I seriously think you are overdramaticising this issue as no one will ever point to his car and laugh over chrome wheels, either that or it will only be high school kids and honestly who cares what they think anyway.

4. You harp on him for being immature for posting credit scores and then you have to retaliate by putting up not only your bankroll or high dollar purchases but also your level of education? who is worse...and then as icing on the cake you tell him not to attend your club meetings? really how juvinile. Sorry but while his response was arrogant it was in defense of his personal tastes, yours is just to be an a-hole....

Just calling it like I see it.

I figured I should reply to your statements, since I feel like I need to defend myself now. This isn't a flame or anything, just a response (if this is going to become a flamefest, I'll just stop replying after this).

1) I see your point about buying the IS300 in cash, but the way I saw it, the market is in a recovery period right now, and I don't have the time to really study the market and put my money in something higher yielding than the mutual funds I have right now. To move the money to make that happen, I would have been subject to the same capital gains taxes I paid to move the money out to buy the car, so I made a personal decision to just buy the car. The dealer offered a better OTD cost if I paid cash, and it wasn't a huge dent in my finances so I just did it. Call it what you want, I just did it this way.

The money I put into my car wasn't an investment. If you talk to people who mod their cars, I'd being willing to bet good money that 99.9% of them didn't do it as an investment with an expected return. I didn't put 10K into my car so that I could turn around and sell it for 50K, I did it because I love cars and I love modifying cars. The 10K was simply what I spent to do it. Whether you agree with me on that point or not is the subject of another discussion altogether, but this is my hobby, so I don't consider it a waste of money.

2) If you read my post again, you'll see I told him to do what he wants. You're right, it's simply a matter a taste, and it's his car and his money. But this is a forum, and I have the right to say what I want--it's my opinion. It has nothing to do with me having a masters degree. The reason I spoke about the majority opinion is because he chose to flame everyone who had something bad to say about chrome wheels (which was the majority) by saying that no one was mature in this forum, which I take exception to. When he chose to only listen to the people who agreed with him, and then write everyone else off as immature, that's when I decided to reply.

3) No excuses here, I was just exaggerating 😛

4) Okay, I wasn't going to bring it up, but when he says, "Okay, recess is over kid," I feel the need to defend myself, wouldn't you? He made the assumption that since I had something negative to say, I must be 14 or something. But I'm not, and I wanted to make that point clear. The other thing about the club events was a joke, but I'm serious about the A4 guys being pretty judgmental about other peoples' modifications. Simply an observation, but I don't usually like to go places where people will laugh at me.
I'm not saying he should make like everyone else just to fit in...I'm just making an educated guess as to the reception he will probably receive.

Feel free to PM me if you want to continue this conversation.

EDIT: Here's a pic of my car (from a while back--wheels changed to 18" SSR Competition gunmetal/polished lip). I figure that if I'm gonna argue in this thread, I ought to be fair and allow flamers a shot at my ride 😀 Sorry about the crap picture quality...

OWNED.

That's very witty of you. He argues with me, and you talk trash. It reminds me of a little guy talking trash behind his bodyguard or something.

Another fine kid ... your parents must be proud.

Not as proud as the parents of the kid who actually did that (nanotech)

and there you go talking trash behind a computer screen right....y0 ethugz 4 life....

pours out some ballz for the dead homies.

Aren't you talking trash behind a computer screen too? Isn't everyone behind a computer screen? Crap, anybody disagrees with anybody else, they'd have to be talking behind a computer screen. I find it completely inane when someone gets accused of having no balls because they're speaking on a forum. I'll share this same opinion in person as I do on the internet.

I'm not trying to start a fight or anything, though--someone wants to meet me at a Starbucks or something to have an intelligent conversation about this, I'll be more than happy to oblige. I just think it's funny that I seem to be having a conversation with bozack while wkabel's only comment was OWNED. You're right, it's pretty easy to have this convo with the protection of the internet. But it's not like I'm arguing about something controversial that could start a fight, it's just a discussion about cars.

I was making a point. You should really wait a little longer that a couple weeks from joining to decide how things are and done here.

You keep bringing up the fight aspect and it appears you don't really want to get into one, then you throw out junk about a little guy and his bodyguard....hey to me it's just a 2 for 1 deal. If you can't take the guard shut y0 mouth. It used to be fun to start crap with bouncers and security, now jail sort of sucks.

lol so I should just not voice my opinion because I just started posting around here? Are you the enforcer on this forum?

again the point went so fast over your head they can hear the swoosh in canada.

You are the one attempting to be an enforcer, I am just calling out the hypocracy.

i dunno if the original poster is even reading this, you guys need to settle the fvck down, does EVERY opinionated thread need to have immediate flames and namecalling? 'you're an idiot if you waht chrome on an a4', i got news for you folks, not ALL chrome wheels are ugly, they do tend to get expensive though. theres plenty of bbs style chrome/dish/lip wheels that look HOT on an a4 (i currently own a 2000 a4). i doubt he's looking for the ghetto style chrome crap you guys are picturing, i see a lot of wheel pictures from vortex and audiworld, you get to see more on vortex cause the vw's, and theres a lot of nice wheels out there.

style im referring to

this is the type i mean.. 18" also looks good on a4s. 19's pushing it.. if you do get 18" wheels you're definitely goin to want to get a set of maybe bilstein with h&r sport springs, i think awe-tuning sells for around $650, its going to look silly without the drop.

personally i put s4 wheels because i wanted something nice and somewhat stock but i hated the 16" 10spoke it came with my car.

anyway, hopefully a positive spin and a foot in the right direction, check out audiworld to see what some people got, and they will flame you so make sure you word your post right and maybe show them a type or example of what you're looking for.

if you want something cheaper but still kinda cool looks, check out flik wheels at www.edgeracing.com
