Tripleshot, i was just being silly about that idea, and helping to prove Descartes' point of

Setting up a home network doesn't mean you're ready to administer a network for any given company!

still, it surprises me at how many people have taken the win2k server exam and seem to think it's a perfect representation of what installing and administering win2k server is about. even with my limited knowledge of my own home network, i can obviously tell it is not.

1. if you have not taken this test, you really have no idea what you are talking about.

2. if you have taken this test and figure everything on it was just fine, you are on your way to becoming a paper MCSE, congrats.

3. if you have taken this test with some form of an idea about what installing and administering win2k server is about (i admit, my own is limited, much greater than the number 2 folks), you should have a bit of a problem with the way it is presented

this is all MY SH1TTY ASS OPINION

My basic opinion is this:

If one really has an ambition to learn, then I don't care how they obtain their certification. It's the ones who do it strictly because they think IT is the place to be, or they saw an ad for it in the Sunday paper that don't get my respect.

If you're doing things at home, you're most likely really interested in it, so... you'll never be a paper MCSE, in my book.

I see your problem.you don't read very well. I said I am an MCSE W2K,so I think I'm qualified to speak about the whole track. I also participate in other forums, and have had this kind of discussion before, usually with new, arrogant members who "think" they know everything.

I told you you got a lucky test.Out of 900 questions, you got one that allowed you to pass with your 760. I passed with 820 and I had maybe 2 questions on Raid and the majority on RAS,DNS,DHCP,and WINS. Don't attempt to lecture me or anyone about the exams or the process in which people pass them and get certified. The very fact that you acknowledge your use of braindumps and Troytec gives most people pause to think you berate anyone else who uses those tools. I was 3 weeks into 8 hour days of Server in a lab and with lectures. You took a cram course for 5 friggin days almost a year ago, and now you think you are gods gift to the IT world. Get a grip son, your education is just starting.

Take your 2153 test and then come and say the same thing about the exams.
Or your now required design exams.
Pro and server are very close to chew and spit exams.

<< anyway, just amazes me that some people can be MCSE's with such limited knowledge >>

The cert is just a grouping of letters on your resume. Just putting a certification or two on your resume with no real world experience is the best way to get yout resume thrown out.

Real world scenarios are the kind where 10 members of management are riding your ass wondering when e-mail will be available again because their clients are trying to e-mail them updates so that their technicians on the phone can provide the client's customers with an explaination as to why their DSL registration isn't going to work. I don't care how much testing you've taken, how many books you've read, how many "home network" setups you've run through, when your job is on the line, your phone keeps ringing and your services are down, no certification in the world will save your butt. In the few years or so that I've worked in an IT department, I come across this situation every once in a while. I have no certifications and I'm sure at this point, they wouldn't do squat for me as I've learned the hard way how to handle this and situations like it. Be cool, calm, collected and tell management to leave you alone and it will be up when it's up. Until then, get off my back! :D
