I ordered a retail amd 2500, antec slk3700amb case w/ 350w psu, 2 x 256mb pc2700 buffalo ram (windbond chips) from newegg, abit nf7 motherboard... not sure what vid card I'll buy yet...

Can I or should I overclock at all? I never have before so I'd have to research it a bit.

should oc a bit, for anything more than a moderate OC id get a good heatsink/fan to make sure it stays cool

hit the cpu forum for more info on ocing, will mostly consist of just upping the front side bus (perhaps some extra voltage, definitely wouldnt touc the voltage without a better hs/f); in which case memory _can_be a concern, i dont keep up with ram too well, dont know how far the buffalo 2700 will oc

If you do decide to OC, do it in moderation after proper research..

Frnd of mine stupidly OC'ed his month old P4 without adequate knowledge and burnt the processor..

Yes, overclock a bit. People are getting great overclocks from the Bartons. The RAM should be ok since they are winbond and the buffulo stuff is supposed to be pretty good. Do some research and read up on overclocking before you start doing it, but it can be a great way to get a little more outta your money. For example, I paid $55 for a 1700+ and it is rock solid @ 2322mhz.

From what I hear buffolo makes some decent ram, but all to gether that is what's going to hold back your overclock them most. I would recomend lapping your heatsink.... especially out of the box when it's easiest, this allowed me to get an extra 200mhz on my 1700+ and still keep my temp under 45c load.

Radeon 9600 PRO for video card. For cooling I'd recommend the Koolance Exos water cooling setup, its user friendly install process pays for itself.:D

No, you can spend your time doing plenty of other more worthwhile things. Well, more worthwhile in my opinion anyways.

Of course you should! You should at least be able to squeeze a little extra out of that setup. If you want to do more get a better HSF as was said. By the time your components would suffer from the effects of OCing you would have probably long since upgraded.

As AbhiJain pointed out don't go crazy and boost everything on your first try. Read up on it and overclock in moderation.
