Kyguy,

If you love RAM (like most of us here) and want to get 512MB, try to get as little RAM as you possibly can and grab 2 sticks of 256MB PC100 SoDIMM at Crucial. They go for around $47 each after the http://www.crucial.com/evguide/ 15% discount.

I believe that Dell Inspiron 8100 has 2 user-accessible SoDIMM slots, just like Inspiron 4000 and Sony VAIO FX200.

nice spec laptop.....

I myself prefer the Sony Vaio ones.........the *ONLY* problem is the lame graphics card that comes with all of them. Its either the 8mb one (can't quite remember the brand and model) or the newer 11mb shared one. An Intel graphics accelerated one and it uses system ram so I don't know how fast that will be though.......

I'll be getting my laptop in about 12 months time after I finished college here in Uk and going to Uni:)....my present from parents for doing well and getting into Uni and I'll need it to do all of my work on as well in Uni....by then I *hope* Sony see sense and stick a *faster* graphics card in there so it'll be better for the *odd* game that I might want to do.....

I'll be looking to get the PCG-R600HEK model....thats eqivelent to eht 505 models in the states...currently at PIII 850 , 128mb ram, 20gb! and you seen HOW THIN the dam thing is?????? its less then 1" dam it!!!! so small and light.....the 12.1 screen will do me.....

Ross, yeah I know people are dumb.. most UofOeans are :D

Jooang, actually, some people are having problems with 2x256 crucial sticks and the geforce2go's! I might go with infineon or simeins or whatever... The dell CSR is the fiancee of someone who frequents here often (she complained about him always being on anandtech!!) and gave me a 128 to 256 promo so I'll wait a tad bit before it's exact as to what works with what :D
