Congrats! I have had the 10D since April and love it. I think I've got about 7k exposures so far. Be prepared to spend even more money on lenses though. The 50mm f/1.8 is great for available light shots. Have fun.

I purchased the kit that includes a EF-S 18?55mm f/3.5?5.6 zoom lens. I do plan on purchasing more, though. That is one of the great things about this cam. With my Sony I did not have many options.

i have a 256 right now, but how many will it hold? like 70, we figured, after reading that 128 holds 30

Congrats WA261, it's a very nice camera. I'm one of the first ones to get that when it was released last september. The included is very nice but i'm planning to get the EF 28-135mm IS USM since some people said that it being a better lens in terms of image quality and low light performance due to its Image Stabilizer. I'm not saying that the included EF-S kit lens is bad, i was just trying to see the new IS lens compared to the kit lens. i should get my new lens by this Wed, just in time for my vacation on the 25th :)
The camera's shortcoming IMO is the tendency of underexpose when you use flash. However, with more practice, i'm sure you can get proper exposure every time. I getting a hang of the camera already.
BTW, my 512mb card holds about 145 images, it's a transcend 45x... read and write speed is really quick compared to my POS Mr. Flash CF.
I'll post some pics later when i get it transferred to my site :)

I get between 150 to 200 shots with a 512 CF card. The exact amount depends on the ISO speed you choose. The higher the ISO, the more noise and subsequently, the larger the file size. If I shoot RAW + embedded large JPG, then it's more like 70-80 on a 512 card.

However, I believe the 300D get slightly less b/c it also embeds a high resolution JPG thumbnail for quick review. The 10D is noticeably slower in this regard. Either way, you probably want to have at least a 512mb card. A 1 gig card is probably ideal though, if it's in the budget.

Wow, those are some really nice pics. I have heard rumors that Canon will be coming out with more digital SLR camera models next year so that will be exciting to see what is on the horizon too.

I just bought my Sony F717 a few hours ago. It's awesome! I considered the Digital Rebel, but it was about three times more expensive with the rebates and discounts I was able to get on the Sony. I don't need an SLR anyway, but the Rebel is definitely a nice camera.

Had mine since Sep. The kit lens isn't particularly sharp but it's wonderful for photographing people and a screaming deal for $100. You can make HUGE, sharp, smooth prints with this camera. Autofocus is amazingly fast and precise, and very quiet. Very little shutter lag.

The only thing I don't like about it is the body - ugly color, cheap-feeling creaky plastic. Though I'm told it's tougher than it seems, I can't imagine this camera lasting 10 years. But for the money nothing else even comes close.

Nice camera! I was really close to buying one for my trip to Russia but I figured it would probably get jacked too easily.
