gopunk

Lifer
400.90 shipped. *sigh* too much money spent this past month.... oh well. i went to best buy to test drive the new pdas and the speed is really fast compared to my 3650. wifi will be nice, bluetooth will be too once verizon actually puts out a bluetooth phone. plus the little thingy that holds my stylus in was broken on my 3650. looking forward to a nice pocketable pda too 🙂

i fixed your post for you, as the 2-4 hours of battery life is fine for most of my needs.

What do you do with a $400 PDA that you don't with a $50 PDA, or wouldn't rather do with a $600 pretty decent laptop? I seriously would like to know, since I find PDA's pretty worthless.

When you find a L-A-P-T-O-P that surf the web with Bluetooth and 802.11b while weighing only 4.7 ounces and fit in your pocket w/o you even noticing while getting around 5 hours of battery life during normal use; let me know

Yes, because surfing the internet with a 4 inch screen, no keyboard, and no mouse is so much fun and is so productive

Trolling? I'm not the one thread-crappin' in someone else's PDA thread Mr. Smarty Pants.

And BTW, I do have a thumboard for my iPAQ 4155. And also, I can easily manage my eBay auctions and browse AT and other websites with my iPAQ. I also do AIM and ICQ from my iPAQ while sitting in Starbucks. Just whip out my iPAQ and check email and chat. I also have my 512MB SD card with music files and movies. I have Adobe Acrobat installed to read pdf files on the go and Pocket Streets with maps of all the major cities on the east coast. That along with about 30 other installed apps to keep me productive on the go

If you don't know what the hell you're talking about, GET THE HELL OUT OF THE THREAD:evil:

I asked a legitimate question and you come in rolling your eyes at me. 512MB "movies"? Maybe a couple episodes of the simpsons, but you're still pushing it. I'm sure I know what I'm talking about - whether I'm crapping on PDA's or not is another question...aww hell, I guess I am 😀 I personally find them to be a rather worthless product with a manufactured need that you've so easily suckered yourself into 🙂 But like it has been said, you're free to do with your money as you wish, and a fool and his money are quickly parted. See ya 🙂

it's all about the luxury of doing something easier and more conveniently.

you dont NEED a computer to survive. you dont NEED nice clothes, or a shiny new $30,000 car in your driveway.

so while you dont feel the need to have one of these, it doesnt make it a pointless purchase for someone else.

I bought the 4155 a month ago for $400 at Amazon. I gotta say that this is the best PDA I have ever owned, and I have owned about 5 PDA's in the last two years. I play to keep this one indefinately as it is lightweight, has BT and WiFi, decent batt life and gorgeous screen. The best part about this PDA is that it is fvcking incredibly stable. I can't remember a single crash using this PDA and it loaded with 50+ apps.

And yeah, Verizon needs to get their act together and get a BT phone out pronto. Until then, i'll use their Q2Net Inet service (which I am using to post right now).

nsf4 pretty much hit the nail on the spot... laptops are not as portable, you can't carry them in your pocket, and you can't turn it on and use it right away (putting it on standby all the time and carrying it around is not really practical afaik). laptops are just not as handy for making quick notes to yourself, checking your schedule, etc.

as for surfing the internet, it's not about fun, it's about convenience and necessity. for me, i don't need to surf the web all the time, but every once in a while i'm in class and i want to check my email. or i'm at a bubble tea spot with friends and i want to check movie times. can you do all this stuff with a laptop? sure, but it's not as convenient.

are pdas for everyone? no, of course not. but just because you don't have a use for them, doesn't mean other people don't. some people have exceptionally good memory, and i guess those people probably wouldn't need one too badly. but i have average memory, a busy schedule, and a lot of important (to me) dates and tasks to keep track of. i could do this without a pda, but the expected benefit from doing all this faster and more efficiently is more than $400 for me. i have assignments to keep track of, a conference paper due in a month, research projects... all leading up to graduate school applications and internship interviews. $400 is a drop in the bucket compared to the effect on future earnings my current performance will have, so i'm wiling to spend it on something that will help me do things better/faster now.

I'm with you on this one. A pda is a poor-mans excuse for a laptop. 🙂

I can see nsf4's point, it must be nice to get the various functionalities out of pda's without toting around a laptop, but if I had to choose one I'd take the power and capacity of a laptop any day.

you are really comparing apples and oranges, pdas and laptops are not meant to be competing products. sure there is an overlapping set of functionality, and they are both for mobile use, but pdas are for on-the-fly-mobility, while laptop is for i-will-be-stationary-for-some-time mobility. if i had the money, i would get both.

Yes very different in reality.

I have a nice laptop. 1.67kg to boot 😀.

was looking for a pda in the states. But didn't find anything I liked. I'm all for ultra thin stuff like the Sony Clie's or the T3 by palm. But the lack of wifi and BT built in is asking a bit much for a thin pda. The others PP ones are a bit too think for me. I'll go with my T68 pda functionality things so far.

Pics of your one in action would be nice gopunk 😀

Thisismatt: They are pretty useful. First, if you can browse web, there are things you can do without a keyboard such as reading articles and the newspaper. You can also check e-mail even if you don't want to reply right away.

Also, it's a great way to keep track of phone numbers and addresses for quick use. No flipping pages needed. You can play games on it when you're bored. It can also be a GPS when you travel, Radioshack sells some thing that makes it into a GPS for $50 last time I checked which was a few months ago. There are plenty of things you can do.
