Eh . . . I think you may be let down a little.

http://www.htc.com/us/smartphones/htc-desire-816/#/

Display
5.5 inch, HD720

Thats a bit low on the PPI side, ~265.

Total storage: 8GB, available capacity varies

RAM : 1.5GB

Bit light on the RAM, and a pittance of internal storage.

Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 400, 1.6 GHz, quad-core CPUs

This is a bit muddy, because that could be either a Krait 300 based sku or a Cortex A7 sku. And both have a kinda weak GPU, Adreno 306. After some quick Googling, it seems to be the Cortex A7 variant, specifically the Qualcomm MSM8928 Snapdragon 400.

I think there's better options for 300 dollars.

The SOC is the same thing as a Moto G but just clocked higher. Realistically the main differences will be the HTC Sense skin and size.

I got beaten to it. ^ right there. Its more of a side-grade than an upgrade.

haha typical responses from a tech forum. Everyone here always has to recommend the absolute best for everyone.

It's a lovely phone that will do great for you.

That being said, it's a side grade. You are getting a bigger screen and a better camera with the same CPU/GPU (but clocked higher), with 1GB of ram still but with a HTC Skin as well.

This phone would be great for a TON of people out there, and its priced well.

1.5GBs of RAM, not 1GB. :p
And I did state it was a side grade from the Moto G. Perhaps not the best time to buy an 816 either, with the new Gs coming later this week.

Frankly it should be fine - it seems pretty similar to the Galaxy Mega in size and specs. Sense tends to be pretty light so for most usage, I'd think the SOC is fine and probably will result in good battery life.

The only downside might be whether HTC will update it to Android L. Do you know what their history has been on their mid-range phones?

I had a Mega for a while - It's not a bad phone at all and the Mega is only a Dual core version of this CPU. Touchwiz ruined that phone more than anything.
