I've hackintoshed my main rig (see below) before and didn't have any issues. Used Kalyway and installing was a piece of cake. The only other thing that I had to install was the video drivers.

Well, now I've ordered a Dell 9n. Is there any other issues that I should look out for. I read that it's one of the better netbooks to hackintosh. I'm planing on using ideneb instead of Kalyway because I'd like to have 1.5.6.

I've ordered a 32gb ssd drive for it and plan on buying more memory. For $200 (excluding hd), I think the 9n was an awesome deal!

You just need to know all the parts. Like wifi and make sure you have the stuff to install it. I read on the slick thread that everything works on that one. I was tempted but i dunno about that atom... let us know how it goes.

Only distros i have used is kalyway and iPC. iPC is pretty sweet too. I could never get others to work.

No, I don't think that you can.

You need a retail copy. It's not necessarily throwing it away since you really should have 2 licenses for 2 different machines.

This guy is selling Leopard (my guess is that it is drop in dvd, not retail) disc really cheap: http://forums.anandtech.com/me...key=y&keyword1=leopard
http://muzso.hu/2008/02/21/how...p-in-dvd-without-tiger

Easy as pie if you have an external dvd drive / dvd drive with usb adapter that the Mini 9 and Leopard like: http://i.gizmodo.com/5156903/h...tbook?skyline=true&s=x

16 GB Super Talent SSD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820609413
It's not a Runcore, but it is readily available and price is right: http://mydellmini.com/forum/su...enchmark-t4892s10.html

FWIW, Amazon has the "Mac Pack" which includes Leopard, iLife & iWork for $133.49 with free shipping.

I just ordered this for my MacBook and the Leopard disc was 10.5.6.

I thought about getting the box set, but I don't need iWork. Is it possible to sell that separately?

quick question: I was originally going to do this using ideneb or kalyway, but now that I've read the gizmodo article, I'm thinking of buying a retail copy and do it using the gizmodo steps. Is there any difference in using either method (except for the whole software update thing)? The article does seem a little complicated.

I installed OS X on my MSI Wind. Here's a few things I definitely want to point out:

1. The screen isn't a high enough resolution to really get the most out of OS X (a bit worse than XP, Vista, or even Windows 7, though you will still run into issues with certain windows extending beyond your resolution).

2. The battery life is terrible on OS X compared to Windows (6 cell battery with mine barely lasts 3 hours, and the Dell is 4-cell standard. Windows 7 runs around 5 hours in comparison).

3. Windows 7's new taskbard > OS X's dock :p

I'm not here to say anything negative about OS X, but I really think it's more practical to use Windows in this case. That, and W7 is pretty sweet (and runs great with 1GB RAM, which you may not have).

I think this boot132 type method creates an EFI partition, so hopefully Leopard thinks it's real Apple hardware during software update process.

Process is very simple if you have a compatible dvd burner (I had to cycle through two different dvd burners and an external enclosure and usb>IDE and different usb>SATA (also has IDE) adapter to find combo that worked for me: NEC 3500a and generic USB->SATA adapter).

"Plug in whatever external DVD drive you?ve got laying around.
Boot the Linux CD to the boot: prompt.
Swap for your retail Leopard DVD (Steal Leopard and face the wrath of Jobs) and boot the OS X installer.
Format the Mini?s internal drive to one GUID partition.
Install Leopard (don?t forget to customize the installation to skip extraneous languages and printer drivers).
The install will fail. Don?t freak. Reboot with the Linux CD and point it to the internal disk.
Leopard should boot. Run software update and get all the latest an? greatest.
Reboot with the Linux CD again.
Mount the .dmg that?s on the Linux CD. Run the scripts therein."

http://mydellmini.com/forum/ho...inal-thread-t1106.html (I think you need USB Legacy Support enabled in BIOS to get Mini 9 to recognize external burning during install process, but you can disable it afterwards so sleep works properly).

edit: that Dell Mini 9 bootloader even disabled hibernate, not sure if it stripped out PPC code, during last step. 16 GB Super Talent said capacity was 14.05 after format, 8.62 GB used after initial install (just deselecting printer drivers and extra languages), 9.15 GB used after 10.5.6 update, and then 7.17 GB used after running those Dell utilities .dmg on bootloader at last step. Someone over at MyDellMini.com also said to avoid Monolingual.

All you need to know is on the mydellmini forums.

The dellefi method is very easy.

There is a new ao5 bios. You may want to flash the bios before doing the osx install.
