It was $230 BTW. I was going to cheap out and get a GTX 560 like what you did but I was convinced to splurge a bit. So far it's been worth it. That said, I did have to replace the cooling to get the most out of it so I spent $265 by the time I was done.

For your needs the GTX 560 should be fine. You will need to upgrade it in the not-too-distant future, though.

That's real jankey and kinda of part of the reason I went with EVGA this time. In short the 6870 is a good card with what seems to be caveats but when i bought mine I had all the best intentions for it in the world to bad it was a dud.

Not sure what jankey means but it feels like a negative word and if so, yeah its jankey as hell. But its not the fault of the 6870 gpu, its xfx's Jankey hsf and I am quite sure if I had spent an extra 20$ on the dc2 or twin frozr I wouldnt be having heat issues. Even so the setup is killing skyrim, d3, tribes ascend, dirt 3, just cause2, serious sam3, and every other game I own.

No actually I wont cause it plays all the games I like to currently play plus it will play the very few games I am interested in that will come out this year such as GW2 just fine and dandy. I don't need high end AA/AF and DOF DX11 HBAO ect ect ect it all a gimmick to keep the kids spending there money on hardware consistently. When my 560 cant run WoW anymore then I know I am in trouble LOL.

GTX 560 SE is an BRAND new 2012 release from Nvidia it is a card that came out to compete with the 6850 cause Kepler will not be on it's way for some time in the mid range.

Seems like with all those games you mentioned you would have been better off with some Nvidia optimized magic in the forum of a GTX 560. You see it's the drivers in where Nvidia gains all it's ground even though I still think Radeon has the more powerful hardware it's the Nvidia drivers and Nvidia politics with game developers as well that makes all the difference.

I'm not upgrading again for at least a year. I was going to get a Catleap but that plan is on hold. I have some other stuff that I need to buy before I upgrade my PC.

I hate it how 6 months after I buy anything for my computer it's worth next to nothing.

In my opinion there is nothing wrong with Powercolor. I own one of their 5850s and it has had no problems.

If we were going by these subjective reviews I would diss the Asus GTX 550 Ti as I had to RMA one of those.

LOL 550ti was and is a joke less performance than a 5770/6770 for the same or higher price LOL no thanx and it's not as if the 6770 is a powerhouse to start with LOL. I am glad you have a soild 5850 to rely on those are still great cards.

You are going to be wanting more fire power going to a 2560 reso on a 7850 although you can always just turn down some settings and be well off yet even in say a game like Crysis 2.

I'm pegged at 60FPS in Crysis 2 on "extreme" settings with DX11 and high-res textures, so I figure I would probably be in the 40s at 1440p.

I'm sure I could run BF3 nicely at 1440p by turning down a few settings as well. I would just have to go from "ultra" to "high" which I don't mind.

The problem is that I just had some unexpected expenses come in so my upgrade will have to wait, plus I need new furniture. Next year. In good time. Hopefully I can get a 120hz Catleap by then, or maybe even a Retina Catleap. 🙂

The gtx 560 336 core 256 bit was more expensive by a few dollars at the time I purchased and from the benchmarks I have seen 6870 wins some and the 560 wins some but for the most part its insignificant. As for drivers I dunno, I have had zero issues with the catalyst with my 4870 and now this 6870.

They suck unless you put some veggies and boiled egg in them. Then they're nominally a meal. Ugh...Top Ramen and PBJ sammiches when I was poor. I'd rather eat well and have second rate hardware. 😉

boil Ramen noodles drain all the water out and add olive oil or butter/margarine then add your favorite spices personally I put in a Curry blend of spice and some Tabasco hot sauce and then add the steamed veggies and hard boild egg. MMMMMMMM MMMMMM Good 🙂

With the clocks SickBeast runs he'll be fine. He won't be able to max out everything on every single game, but he'll still be able to run very high IQ. Except those games that choke 680's/7970's when maxed out. He should be able to do BF3 on high, for instance.

Ya with reduced settings the 7850 will do that game in 1440P but it will be hard pressed to maintain real high framerates even when OCed at that resolution for it takes pretty well 2x the performance to run the same as it would in 1080P.
