So I applied to the University of Waterloo for three different programs. I had my college marks sent to them electronically and then I had to send in more documentation (some forms that were basically about your personality, interests, accomplishments, comp certifications, work experience, calculus and algebra math classes I am taking via correspondence and high school transcripts). I express posted the other documentation at the Purolator store but forgot to get my receipt for tracking (thought my mother grabbed it).

So I called up Purolator and they don't even have computers at the store so they can't tell me the tracking # of my package. Fair enough, it should still get there okay, right? Wrong. Just my luck that the time I didn't get my receipt it never gets delivered. University got fed up waiting for documentation during the past couple weeks, analyzed my college marks alone (which was a perfect 4.0 GPA, so wtf?) and denied me entrance.

I called them up and of course the stuff I sent out wasn't received. Bleh about $200 wasted in application fees, purolator and transcripts :(

Damn that's rough, and there isn't really any way you can get them to look at it again. I remember some news story about some kid getting his transcript (which was really good) switched with some retard and ended up getting rejected everywhere. They realized the mistake later but the kid was still screwed.

Yeah I asked the admissions office on the phone and they said exactly that. Too bad, so sorry. There is always next year though.

To be honest I was pretty sure by this point that I was just going to do another year at my college and get the 3-year diploma (I have the 2 year) so I guess I'm just going to do that now. It was just a longtime goal to get in--a personal goal I guess you could say (I dropped out of high school, hit drugs, cleaned up, went back, finished there and maintained a 4.0 at college in computer programming since).

On another note I recently realized that I would enjoy taking Physics at university much more than CS so I think that is what I'll apply for next year.

Okay so... I'm having a GREAT day now.

I didn't get in to the university originally because of my lost documentation (they needed high school transcripts to see my math marks) and deadlines had passed so I gave up on that idea for another year.

Now. Today I get a small letter in the mail. Smaller letters = bad. I open up and read it, they have denied me into the History program because my documentation was not received by deadline blah blah blah. I already received one letter denying me into CS for the same reason. (I applied to three programs total)

So then my father hands me a big envelope from the school. I'm like WTF. He is smiling and I was like "this is just an application for next year or something...it can't be...IT CANT BE" (you know what big courier-size envelopes are for) so I tear it open and they looked at the documentation that was electronically sent from my college (perfect 4.0 GPA) and were so impressed it says they offered me admission into Arts first year which blows on one hand (arts? :().

But I read down below and they are giving me 4 full-course credits (8 half-course credits whatever that means) recognition because of classes I had at college. In addition I was thinking I could switch after the first semester or two into CS because getting your foot in the door is the hardest part, right?

Bleh this really put a fork in my plans now  Getting into university at the end of July = not much time to decide. It says respond by August 5th.

it might not be that easy. for my school there are requirements that you have to take X amount of intro CS classes before you can transfer and have X GPA which in most cases is harder to achieve then having them just base it off your previous college (4.0) and high schoo stuff. I think transfering for me I had to have something along the lines of a 3.6. but im not sure what their requirements would be.

Yeah I've heard its usually very hard but I hope I can do it somehow. Part of the documentation they didn't receive was the recent math courses I did. The last application they have from me was after I dropped out of high school and lacked math (so they probably saw that on file). Recently I taught myself calculus and algebra and did correspondence courses receiving credits and my OAC diploma (administered by the ministry of education--the same exact material as high school) and have the math background people entering into CS need.

Maybe they will look at those math marks + college GPA + my first semester at university GPA and consider me I really hope so because I don't want an arts degree :p
