Tonight I switched to Firebird over IE, Trillian over AIM, and iTunes for streaming audio. (I still use Winamp with MAD for Mp3s).

So far, I'm loving the changes!

I made the exact same changes, sans iTune, a while ago. Definitely feels good to stop using cluggy software 🙂

And there's nothing more satisfying than to view one of the numerous webpages that attempts to hijack IE, and watch it fail uselessly when it encounters Firebird.

Do you think its only a matter of time before hijack websites learn to rape Firebird, or is it inherently more secure?

opera, trillian and WA5 here

have been opera sence V5, trillian before pro 1 came out and ive always used winamp

Firebird = no activex, so it's much more secure. I have had it crash on me a few times though, but overall it's light years ahead of IE

I've had trouble getting Trillian to work with file transfers over AIM so I'm sticking with AIM + DeadAIM for now. I've been using Firebird/Mozilla for a year now and it's been great.

firebird is a piece of sh!t when it comes to stability. i still use it as my main browswer though because tabbed browsing = 0wnij. extensions/add-ons are cool also. trillian blows also. aim/deadaim > trillian. none of my friends use any other instant messengers so i have no need for trillian.

id use trillian over icq/msn any day but i like the new msn stuff like pics, webcam conferencing and games....

I use Firebird on both my linux boxes, but my PC I'm still running IE.. out of habit I guess. Stability wise, I never have crashes with Firebird, and its quite speedy on my 600mhz iBook.

Firebird and Thunderbird (e-mail) doth rocketh. I love how I can switch between Fedora and Windows on the same box and have the web browsers behave the same.

Firebird is so simple and great, but I still use IE6 for things I have not installed plugins in Mozilla for.

Haven't tried Trillian but heard great things. Just lazy I guess.

Just updating from winamp 2.7 to Winamp 5.01 and wow it functions just as simple as 2.7 but a lot better. None of that 3.x crap.

I've been online for well over 5 years... and out of the literal millions of sites i've visited with IE, i've never ran into a problem with security. What problem with security are you having that i may be unaware of?

trillian pissed me off. after letting it sit idle, i couldn't message anyone. I doubled clicked names on my list and nothing comes up.

Im a paid member using Trillian Pro, but I think I'll have to give it up soon. MSN has too many other features and stuff that Trillian can't offer ( people always ask my I'm not accepting something from them ) I think I will lay Trillian to rest soon. 🙁

Opera may use a nice chunk of RAM, but the cool features FAR outweigh the lost RAM. Not to mention that it's even less targeted by hackers than Mozilla\Firebird. Opera combines tabbed browsing, mouse gestures (more useful than you'd think), and a slick skinnable interface.

MyIE2, Trillian and WMP9

MyIE2 owns Mozilla and Opera. Only thing that I have found it doesnt work with is the IMDB photo galleries.
