Well apparently WMCS are all bloodsuckers that can't stand up for ourselves... so I figure if you guys are all just gonna flame me for being part of the lawsuit theres no point in posting this... PLEASE LOCK IT MODS. Oh and thanks for the comment Russ, appreciate it...

<< Without the WMCs though there wouldn't even BE a hot deals forum.... Those were the days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! >>

Yep. That's why hot deals forum is unbearable and disgusting.

Well the state of the hot deals forum isn't what it used to be.... at first we all had a great time and it was the start page for my IE. It's pretty much in shambles now and the majority of the stuff I just ignore....

But in its better days if gave us cool deals like valueamerica (which we probably had a large part in putting out of business due to abuse). But only the strong survive....

Hot deals forums were awesome back in the day, before aol locks, coupon locks, etc.
Still some great deals every once in a while, but it aint da same.

<< I'm supposedly getting a 500 bonus for being a class rep. on top of a share of the pie that all WMCs, that didn't opt out, were entitled to. Which isn't shabby at all considering I got 500+ for letting buy.com tap into my bank account and use a couple hundred of dollars for a week and then filling out stacks upon stacks of paperwork for the rest of the WMCs. >>

Poor guy. You deserve so much more for your selfless act of compassion (read martyrdom). Would you care to toot your own horn some more?

::Will this old SH*T just die already?::

I'm not sure who to feel more sorry for: Buy.com for a simple and apparently very costly mistake because of people's loose morals, or the WMC for still believing they should get some money for this.

BTW Guys I just drove by Ford and they are selling new Mustangs for $2,000. Thats right! I think they forgot to throw an extra 0 on the end - anyway I broke out the visa and bought 4 of them. Those bastards better deliver!

<< You maggots started the Hot Deals slide into the sewer pit it's become. FOAD! >>

I thought it was because of all the Staples coupons we were posting that made it go to pot. Staples threatened to sue AnandTech if they didn't stop the coupon posting, so the admins and mods said "no more coupons, period."

Crying shame, too. This place had some of the best deals I've ever seen (got Win2k Professional full version for $7).

LoqT: Nice of you to show up and brag about getting extra $$$ for being a class rep. Have you gotten your check yet, cuz I am also a WMC, but beyond the notice of the class settlement last fall, I haven't heard squat.

It's been two years and I frankly am not gonna get my knickers in a twist if a check NEVER arrives, but it really annoys me when all these self-righteous people scream and holler about how there shouldn't have been a suit against Buy's scams. Buy cleaned up it's act AFTER getting it's nose bloodied and the WMC are to THANK.

Anti-WMC playa hatas are just jealous that they didn't get in on the deal and are being killjoys. They prolly are the same folks who post "Make $20 on [whatever] after stacking 3 coupons, price matching at 2 places, MIR and RMA! w00t!"

The WMC didn't try to scam, Buy did. This wasn't a Ferengi situation where peeps tried to order 100 hard drives that had clearly been mispriced at $5, then bragged about how they were going to eBray to pimp them. Buy was staking their rep on having the lowest prices anywhere, even if it meant going below cost. They used software to scan the Web for prices and automatically lower their prices. It was reasonable to think it may have been a loss-leader deal.

Buy's shipment of some monitors NOT on a FC, FS basis and the charging of everyone's credit cards for days before they turned tail and canned orders was wrong and they got off cheap for their scam.

This deceased equine has been flogged enough. I wish they'd just send out the $$$ so we can shut up about it. Playa hatas get away and STFU with your hypocritical, jealous flamage.:|

Do you really believe that or do you just keep telling yourself that to make yourself feel better about the whole thing? Yes it was known that buy.com would occasionally sell under cost to gain market share and to pick up some of the cost over advertising .... but did you really think they were selling monitors at $300+ loss a piece just as good PR? I won't stand on some point and try to say I'm above anyone else, I ordered one then too, I didn't know at the time how low it really was just thought it was a great deal, but people have gone way beyond the call of duty ripping on a company for a screw up. If there was a first letter offering to opt out I would have probably done it, I can tell you with all seriousness though if its enough money that I'll use it to build a system for a local adoption agency I know for a fact needs one and feel much better about the whole thing.

Do you really think that any person that flames you for bragging about this is jealous, come on, I know if its a couple hundred dollars its a fair amount of money to me but I know there are many people here that would post that a amount of money like that is like a drop in the bucket, they surely aren't jealous over a couple hundred bucks.

/me sighs...

Search for other threads about this subject for all the legitimate reasons why Buy should take it in the shorts over this scam, and that's what it was. The Celeron 300a ripoff, the charging before shipment and then fighting not to refund if an order is delayed causing the buyer to wish to cancel it, blah-blah-woof-woof, it went on and on until the WMC Incident and the lawsuit that made them clean up their act.

I didn't file a suit. I didn't demand that they be sued. I was automatically added to the class and that's as far as I went. If I get money, fine. (Any money I get will probably get spent at Buy.com!) But, they clearly did something wrong and this is the punishment.

I know that there are a lot of liberals here who think that they're entitled to free whatever (*ahem*Napster*cough*w4r3z*wheeze*) they want, but no one else better get something. Regardless of how big a drop in their bucket it would be, they can't stand that someone is getting something they aren't, so they'll attack those who MAY get something. But, it's not the money, it's the principle involved.

Since they shipped what they had in stock, they should've let everyone else have an opportunity to also purchase at that price. It would've cost them in the short run, but how much did it cost them to feed their lawyers for these last two years?

Buy's reign of terror ended with the WMC and if we're gonna miss Buy now, it's because of what this incident made them become, not what they were before. You should be thanking us, not attacking us. Jealousy makes your eyes green.

"...legitimate reasons why Buy should take it in the shorts over this scam, and that's what it was."

Since when is a typo a scam? Just keep telling your tale long enough and even you will start to believe it. But I know in your heart you were just doing it for the good of the WWW. <gag> :|

Actually I'm not here to brag.... they asked me if I wanted to become part of the lawsuit through e-mail.... I didn't know if I was getting a dime for filling out all the paperwork. But I did, and they recently told me I'd get paid to do it... so why not?? Typos aren't a scam, but taking people's money without giving them anything is not cool. It's a binding contract to sell after you take someones money and take it around the block for a week. Lawyers are scum yes, but so is corporate America.

The assumingly ridiculous sums of money that people recieve for punitive damages isn't for the individual that sues, but are in fact used more as punishment to the company for bad practices. Take that whole McDonalds hot coffee incident.... did the lady deserve millions of dollars? Probably not, she didn't even want that much she just wanted McDonalds to pay for her medical bills for the severe burns. They refused to, she took them to court and won. Everyone laughed and bitched about it.... well long story short.... Mc Donalds lowered the temperature of their coffee.

If the lawsuit didn't have a legitimate reason, there wouldn't be a reason for it winning in court. All you guys that whine about WMCs aren't getting the point.

JUST TOOTIN MY HORN !!!

The fact that they charged peoples credit/debit cards before shipping then later cancelled the orders is what puts it over the edge.

Actually many monitor buyers were told it was a legimate price and that it was some sort of Buy.com promotion.....They accepted all the orders....charged the credit cards, then shipped out in some random fashion, that clearly wasn't first come, first served....

Buy's reign of terror ended with the WMC

AHAHAHAAHHAHAA

Good thing the WMC were there to stop buy.com! next thing you know, buy.com is going to start taking over Canada too!!!!

where were the WMC when the Vietnam happened? THEY probably could have stopped that reign of terror too!

AHAHAHAHHHHAHAHHAA

<< Although from what I hear none of the other thousand or so WMCs have opted out of their checks >>

i hate to agree, but hes right, hd forum people flame when a post is made in wrong place, EVERY SINGLE time, and they get mad if it isnt a good enough deal.

why do you think OT has gotten more popular?? migration!

Not all, just some.

If you are going to post false statements, such as "none of the other thousand or so WMCs have opted out of their checks", then you should be prepared for the response.

All I said was that was what one of the other reps told me.... I said that it's what I heard but apparently that makes me a twerp.
