"Episode III will further connect the Star Wars saga, bridging the prequel trilogy to the original trilogy in new and surprising ways. As such, familiar faces and places will return in this new Star Wars film, which is currently in pre-production.
Reprising their classic roles from the original trilogy are actors Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker. They return to Star Wars as Chewbacca the Wookiee, C-3PO and R2-D2.

"I'm delighted to return as Chewbacca," says Mayhew. "I think his re-appearance in this film is a fitting way to tie the whole saga together, especially for Wookiee fans." I remembered in a new hope...obiwan 1st went to chewy at the cantina..which meant he knew him from before...will be cool if there is a scene with ewan and chewy.

I'd say Han Solo is probably just a kid right now. It'd be cool to see him walking around playing with toys, just as a cameo, but I don't think it'd add too much to the movie.

Great. Official Episode III spoilers are starting to trickle in. I'm hoping to avoid everything about Episode III, mostly because I knew just about everything about Episodes I and II before I saw them.

If you got that from those damn books, then it doesn't count. Those books are NOT a part of the REAL star wars universe. (Course to me, episodes 1 and 2 don't belong there, either).

Well at least Chewie, 3po and R2D2 won't be CGI.
 
I still have my official right from Skywalker ranhc Episiode-II baseball hat.
One of the guys i work with has a borther who works for Lucas at ILM, he's been out to the ranch a stack of times..got to work on a stack of movies.
When he went out to see his bro, he had him get me a hat from the ranch, as far as he knows there are only 6 of them available since they were made as a "prize" for specific mebers of the staff.

Of course I never wear the damn thing. 🙂
 
There is no hope for this film as long as Luc-ass is still alive. Way to go George. I wait my whole adult life for Star Wars to return and they suck the big penis of life.

That's totally cool, free country and all. Speaking for myself I was a HUGE SW fan all my childhood. Who would have figured LotR would blow away Star Wars in so many ways. Hell, I think some episodes of 24 blow away the new Star Wars films.

Hell, if someone said to me right now that I have the choice to see today either the next Star Wars film or next week's 24 I would opt for 24. At least 24 won't make me depressed at the thought of having my childhood raped.

 
Given the MASSIVE expectations that fans had of the new films it would have been nearly impossible to satisfy everyone's desires.

I don't hate the two new films, but I don't think they do a very good job representing the essence of Star Wars. The basic, underlying failure of these films is their total and utter lack of charm. Lucas and company failed to provide actors and characters we should care about, and then he had them spout embarrassing, cliched dialog. On top of that, the sets and environments, which were as important in the first three films as the actors, were, in large part, uninteresting and unnoticeable. Then Lucas does something he shouldn't have, he does something that separates the two new films from the first trilogy and thus manages to suck all the life and charm from the series - he uses too much bloody CG effects.

On their own, or to someone who is new to SW, the new films are probably pretty good. When compared to the brilliance of the first trilogy they just can't compare.

Is it nostalgia, or is it poor filmmaking that lead fans to dislike the new films? I'm willing to bet it's the latter. Lucas should never have been allowed to write and direct these films.

Actually they are making R2 CGI I've read.

Also, Star Wars geeks base MUCH of the plot on the books. And lucas tends to also.
