I just lapped my L629A 293 E6300, I was at it for 40 minutes lol, 400 grit to 1000, then 2000. My 400 grit ran out of life so I did not get all the edges on the outside but those dont really matter, the HSF was pretty concave, higher in the middle, very low on some edges, if i wouldve sanded all the edges to copper I would have hit the core lol.

So how did I do for my first lapping job, I did it because Im getting my new Mobo, cooler, and fans tomorrow from newegg, I also rubbed through my thumb skin lol, and a little blood was on the 400grit so i had to bandage it up lol.

OP's fixed fixed link to lapped cpu

That is one hell of a mirror that's for sure. Does your heatsink base look like that too?
Question: Has anyone tried this Lapping Kit? Frozen CPU Lapping Kit I curious to find out what the spray in the bottle it, I mean it's it's like distilled water with soap I can probably just find the stuff I need at a hardware store. Although I don't think $11 for 5 Sheets of 5 different grits, a lapping surface, and lapping spray doesn't sound to bad. Might use it on my next build :D

I went behind my dads back at his automotive shop and stole the following lol,

400grit
600grit (Didnt use)
1000grit
2000Grit

I didnt use any water or polish or anything, just patience and a flat (And I mean FLAT as glass) counter top.
If your surface isnt flat dont aptempt it :)

Also thanks both of you for the fixed links, AT doesnt support hotlinking i guess.
I have yet to run it, my system is in pieces and my new mobo is coming here tomorrow.
Before lap on stock cooler idle was 42/43C (Its summer :S)
Tomorrow I am installing a thermaltake heatpipe cooler on an ABIT IB9 and overclocking.
