No local numbers available for me. :( I have been wanting to go this route for a while but my local phone company is real monopolistic and they are the only source of landline service.

No competition = HUGE phone bills. $55/mo w/ 300min of LD.

No. If you do, any data lines (Tivo, DirecTV, security and fax) will have problems. Security and Tivo are the most likely to have problems if you enable bandwidth saver.

If, on the other hand, you have no data lines, the saver is fine. I tried it to see what the voice quality is like and I could hear no difference.

Cool. I have the bandwidth cranked up all the way....

You can pay a few more bucks for "Virtual Phone Numbers", but I don't think you can change your number regularly without re-initializing service each time.

Will a regular fax machine work with Vonage?

I've heard of people having trouble with fax machines and vonage (I don't use a fax machine at home, so can't say one way or the other).
supposedly the new equipment they send works just fine with all fax machines and the previous problems where related to the hardware (again, I haven't faxed from home using vonage, so I can't say for sure)

I have the motorola box and have requested the linksys box. I hear the linksys box has less problems, and that they no longer send the motorola box.

I have no problems with the Motorola here, and quality is great. I personally believe the Linksys is simply cheaper for them to send out.

Anyhow, faxing works, I just know there was problems at one time with faxing multiple pages...not sure if that still is an issue.

Is the general consensus Moto > Linksys VOIP equipment?

according to my research on the vonage forums, people who have had problems with vonage on the motorola were sent a linksys replacement and there problems went away, but those with no problems on the motorola love the mototrola.
I thinks either box will work just as good as the other. I don't think they send the motorola box anymore, but I could be wrong.

So on vonage you have to dial the area code? Is there a timeframe when this might be fixed? I just think it is stupid to have to dial the area code.
