Hey all, i am now doing a lil work to help out! ... but i was wondering...

i have a 1.2@1.4 Gf3 512 DDR...

Now as of right now i ahve it set to only run when the Screen saver is on...

i would like to run it constantly but, will a take a performance hit, when i play games?!

or does it only used the UNUSED cycles of the CPU... thanks all...

so far i am at like 4 % and 10 minutes CPU time ... is that about right?

Eep...the screensaver is bad man ;)

Get the CLI client (command-line)...it's like 70% FASTER than the GLI (graphic) one, if u have the graphic running.

You can get the CLI here

You'll also want SETI Driver to monitor your progress/make it easier to do...and SETI Watch is a neato tool to look at your past WU (work units).

Lemme find those for ya...

Ok, get SETI Driver here

And...SETI Watch here

Go ahead an uninstall the GLI version.

Then...create a SETI@Home folder somewheres, and put the CLI thing you d/l in there.
Also put the SETI Driver program and the SETI Watch program there.

When you run SETI Driver, tell it to create SETILog.csv...tehn when you finish a WU, you can look at the stats w/Seti Watch.

Edit: i believe XP users get this one: i386-winnt-cmdline.exe

If the SETI Driver icon is upside down and red it means it's not processing. You need to set a cache size and then hit save config and then hit transmit. Once it gets a WU to process it will turns blue and right side up and when a WU is done it turns yellow.

The race is off for now ,it maybe continued or restarted at a latter point.
Either way your continuing contribution towards TA will help us keep ahead of DSLR ,remember even though the race is off the teams are still crunchin!:)

Nope (you'll just get long WU times)

or does it only used the UNUSED cycles of the CPU...
yep :)

Good to see you are now running the faster CLi client with SETIDriver :).
Btw you'll want to set about a 5 day WU store

You got it running?

[update]
Whoops! Jolly's link isn't right ;)
Get the CLi client here for Win 9x/ME,Win2k etc

Contrary to what most people say, the CLI is NOT any faster than the graphical version if you don't run the graphics. Just set the program to always run in the background, select a different screensaver, and then keep it in the systray. I have used the graphical version for windows, and the cli version for linux, and noticed no difference in times.

That is no longer true with v3.03 ,(though it was with v2xx) ,at least not with machines I have switched to CLi
eg

Athlon 700 classic ,av WU times
v3.03 GUI 11hrs(blank screen,always run)
v3.03 CLi 8.5 hrs

PIII 500 @ 515,av WU times
v3.03 GUI 15hrs(blank screen,always run)
v3.03 CLi 11 hrs

PII 333 @ 374,av WU times
v3.03 GUI 20hrs(blank screen,always run)
v3.03 CLi 15 hrs

As you can see that's about a 25% reduction in WU times :)

err ,not sure what you mean here:confused: ,but I guess you mean the progress monitoring

You need to enable 'use SETIDriver' (& press save config button). You can also enable SETISpy if you have that.
Low priority is just fine:) ,it won't effect your systems peformance.

You'll want a about a 4-5 day WU store ,I'm guessing your WU times will be about 5hrs/WU on average so you want to set the cache size to 24 WU's.That's assuming you are running it 24/7 ,set it lower if you are not.

If you have a permanent net connection enable 'auto transmit' other wise you'll just have to do it manually.
Tick 'hide processing' ,this hides the DOS box
Untick 'display transmit' once its all running nicely.

When I switched to the command line version, it wiped 2hours off my average time. Although now, my boss keeps turning my machine off overnight and weekends, so i'm only doing about 1.5 units a day, grrrrr :|
