I just did a fresh install of Winxp Pro and everything seemed to go fine.

It installed, Asked me for my username, I entered one. Now it wants me to enter my logon/password. So I enter my username and a password I want to use. Figureing this is where it takes your first logon info.

BUT! I get this message:

The system cannot log you on due to the following error.

The specified domain does not exist or could not be contacted.

Please try again or contact your system admin.

Huh?

Any help is apreciated, thanks.

If Winxp is in a FAT32 file system just access dos then delete \WINDOWS\system32\config\SAM this SAM file contains all user logon's.When deleted winxp will replace this file with a fresh one but with no users. At least you'll be able to create new accounts. Don't really know much about NTFS but i'm sure you can access files through Recovery console.

you didnt configure it to be apart of a domain during the install did you? , either way, can you change the log on so that it attempts to log onto the local computer and not a domain? ..

Login as the administrator and check the domain setting (get rid of any domain setting you may have mistakenly established) & also check the user & password setting for the user you have established.
