So yea i just installed vista ultimate 32-bit edition and its awesome. didn't think i would be impressed by it at all but now that im actually suing it its great. My computer actually seems faster to tell you the truth. and i love the new themes and backgrounds. most people don't like the UAC but it doesn't really both me much. i like it because its thorough really doesn't miss anything which is good. that means if some malicious software is trying to install or change shit then i will def. know whats going on. Thanks microsoft

I have it on two of my 4 systems. I am in agreement. BTW - you can disable UAC easily in MSCONFIG and re-enable it as needed. It really is a non-issue.

Got NOD32 anti-virus set up on here and office 07. what else should i get to spruce it up a bit lol?

hey guys i upgraded and it complied all of my old xp files in the windows.old folder. is it safe to just delete this normally or is tere something special you have to do to uninstall it. its taking up like 20gb of space so its a little much.

Maybe try out the voice-recognition feature :) It's not perfect but it was fun to goof around with.

Also, since you have Ultimate, maybe log onto your Administrator account and make a full system-image backup to a DVD or two, and you can re-image the system from those discs if you need. Or an external drive.

Oh, and depending on how much of a security freak you are:

  1. set up a separate Admin account so you can switch yours to Standard
  2. consider using a Software Restriction Policy since Ultimate has that capability
  3. fully enable Data Execution Prevention :camera: (right-click Computer and choose Properties to get here). You can make exceptions for programs that have DEP issues. For me, HalfLife 1 games had to be exempted.
  4. Log onto the Admin account, go to Start > All Programs, right-click Internet Explorer, choose Run as Administrator, then go to Tools > Internet Options, hit the Advanced tab and go down to where you can enable the dedicated IE7-specific Data Execution Prevention option (which is called Enable memory protection to help mitigate online attacks). You will not be able to alter this setting (via the GUI, anyway) without taking these steps.

Delete windows.old and enjoy the fact that Vista's defrag will smartly and stealthily defrag and neaten up all that stuff, no configuration or second-thought required.

I find nice backgrounds at interfacelift.com.

Aside from that, I don't need much sprucing up, really.

Have you tried out that DreamScene thing yet?

I liked the typo - "suing" it. If it were me, I wouldn't want to go up against their lawyers. ;)
