Well, installed the latest version of Hardware Monitor and Prime95. Prime has been running for almost an hour now and the max cpu temps on all 4 cores is 27 Degrees Celcius.

Idle show it at 14-15 Celcius.

I'm also using the 'High Heat' Torture test.

Does that sound accurate?

Wow, you guys aren't kidding, as soon as i hit stop all 4 Workers, my temps just dropped form 27 down to 20 Celcius in about 15 seconds not even.

Try a different program for temperatures. I just ran HWMonitor and I was getting WAY low temps from it, and then I installed a different temperature monitoring program and I was getting the CORRECT temperatures as verified by BIOS.

I'm thinking of picking one of these up, two dumb questions-

Would a sabertooth 990fx still have core unlocking?

With a 560ti how much of an improvement would I see over say... a stock clocked e7500?

The Sabertooth definitely has core unlocking. I use it.

What other temperature monitoring program did you use?

What other temperature monitoring program did you use?

Just googled it and found "Speedfan". It gave me correct temperatures vs HWMonitor which gave me temperatures that were VERY low. It said my overclocked CPU was idling at 60F which was lower than room temperature by about 10 degrees on a Hyper TX3. Then I installed speedfan and it gave me results that corresponded with the bios.

Thank you! Will try it at home.

So, for speedfan users, which one is my core temp? Core? I have Temp 1, Temp 2, Temp 3, GPU, Core, HD0, etc.

It seems to me that my CPU temp might actually be Temp 2? I am not sure how to tell, exactly...

Mine is labeled "CPU"

AMD Overdrive gives some accurate temperature readings. It's a pretty robust program. I have it on all 3 of my win7 machines.

I see your 960T is unlocked. Didn't that mess up the temperature readings? I think it did on mine.

My 555BE and 960T are both unlocked and get accurate sensor readings in Ubuntu. I had the 555BE using Win7 a few months ago, and the readings were pretty much the same when I moved it to Ubuntu.

Figured I'd ask this here since this topic has already been brought up in this thread. I picked up a 960t, sabertooth 990fx, 4x4gb of gskill 1333, hyper 212+ in a centurion 534. I'm haven't touched a thing in the bios and having a hard time believing that I'm only hitting 28c under load. Should I be looking at cpu temp instead of core temp?

I left prime95 running on blend overnight with the side of my case open and Coretemp said the highest I reached was 24c. Am I really lucky, am I doing something really wrong or wasn't there a problem with the temperature probe in some of the phenom cpus?

edit: Ambient in my apartment is 74f/23c at the time of the screen shot, was about 71f/22c'ish overnight

Yeah, coretemp is not meaningful in Speedfan, I would look at those other, higher, temps. Or install AMD overdrive, that provided a lot of good and accurately labeled information.

I believe the part about it being cold to the touch under load at stock settings, I noticed the same with my 1100T. Be careful though, if you have a window letting sun shine onto the computer during the day, this can make a dramatic difference. Right now I'm running it at 3.9GHz with NB at 2.4GHz, current prime95 temp is 48c (maxed at 51c so far). However, when I left it prime95ing (at 3.8GHz) for a full day, when I got home I saw that it maxed at 59c (yikes!). Only explanation I can think of is the sun shining onto the system (and the significantly higher room temp during that time).

Oddly enough, a very slight change in NB voltage made all the difference in stability.

http://www.overclock.net/t/777378/o...uban-overclocking-guide-with-too-many-smileys is definitely a good place to start :D

What kind of numbers were you seeing, the bump as well as the before/unstable and after/stable values in the NB voltage (and are you talking more specifically about the voltage for the CPU-NB, or to you mean the separate northbridge voltage?)

Oh really? If HWMonitor is also giving you those readings maybe there's something wrong with your sensor. Could always try CoreTemp to see if you get the same results...

Good luck! Even if you can't unlock the two extra cores the 960t itself should be a blast to overclock.
Could never get the locked cores working..... In my attempt trying all different setting my SSD drive died on me... :'( When all this happened I took things apart, because I wanted to install a new cpu cooler (antec Kuhler 920). I took the CPU to the store to try RMA because of the temp, but they wanted to test it first... They did so on a Asrock 970 extreme3 something, and on that board the temp was more normal (they used the stock cooler) so no luck with RMA  Strange, when my board shows correct temps on my 940.., I even tried Bios F7a, but it doesn’t support the CPU, it would load, but speed was limited to 800 Mhz.
So while I have to RMA the SSD, I just took one of my old hard drives, got the new cooler working, and OC this thing stable to 4.2 GHz @ v-core 1.45 and NB 2.8 GHz @ NB cpu 1.25 v. I am very pleased with that

Hehe, getting two problems for the price of one :D Glad to see you could at least get a new SSD.

My chip isn't the best OCer for Thubans... can't get 3.9 stable at 1.45, but good at stock for 3.7. Can't seem to find the right setting to get the NB stable, too. Oh well, luck of the draw.

I was referring to the CPU-NB. Its voltage was set to 1.15v prior to upping the CPU-NB frequency to 2.6GHz.
When I upped the frequency and it became unstable, I upped the voltage one notch up, to 1.1625v. I prime95'd it overnight after that (with cpu set to 3.9ghz) without a hitch.

Couldn't get the thing stable at 4.0 yet, trying 1.4 CPU voltage, temps are a bit high though at that voltage.

Daveybrat,
I am new to OC, so I have no idea how it works. But, I did just have the AMD 960t installed this week, as well as a new Asus M5A88-V EVO mobo. The board has alot of great features to OC, and boost this and that and a core unlocker. One simple little switch on the board and a red led lights up, and you now have 6 cores running, for the price of 4! It was simple.
The board has alot of software included to monitor and tweak the settings, and I have the PC Probe running now. My temp, with the stock cooler and 6 cores running is 38-40 C. When I play Fear 3, just now, it jumps to 50C, but not over. From what I've read, 62C is the cutoff point for keeping this cpu cool. So, right now, as I look, the cpu, at idle is now 39C and the mobo is 26C.
I'm using the onboard 4250 video card, which is actually doing real good in mid range settings. My next pop will be for a good cooler and Nvidea card, as even though this board supports Hybrid Crossfire X, it's better to use one good card rather then 2 cheapos, which is what you have with the Crossfire. With the 6 cores running, the tests show this cpu to be as fast as the 1090, but about $200.00 cheaper! Great deal so far!

Nice job. I tried unlocking mine and it unlocks to 6 core with no issues overclocked to 3.2GHz stock voltage. I turned it back into a 4-Core though as my games don't currently use a 6-Core and i can overclock higher with 4 cores. The stock heatsink is pretty much junk with this cpu, so i installed a CM Hyper 212+ and at 3.4GHz overclock my cpu runs at around 17-21C and under load around 23-28C.

Aftermarket cooling is definitely the way to go!! :)
