I finally broke down and ordered a Lite On burner. It was time to upgrade from my old HP 9100i 8/4/32. It still works fine, but it's a bit slow by today's standards. All I've read and heard are rave reviews for the Lite Ons. I thought it was time to try one out. The price was much cheaper than what I paid for the HP 9100i back in 1999, also. I believe it was 1999.......yep.....the HP was manufactured in September 1999.

I burned my first disc (a Maxell 12x rated CD-R) in 3 min 57 sec at 32x and with 695MB of data. Not too bad. That's the first time I've used Nero, also. EZ CD creator 4.02 didn't recognize the new Lite On. Oh well, guess I'll learn to use Nero. I hear it's a bit better than EZ, anyway. Just thought I would share.

I don't have a LiteOn burner....Yet

But I have the 16x dvd drive and love it

I also have Nero with my burner and will never go to anything else

Sounds like you got a great drive

<< me wonders why you didn't go the whole hog & get the x40 version liteon! >>

Well, about $20 or so difference in price, and only a few seconds difference in burn time. Seemed like more value for the money at the time.

Great choice.

I have had that burner fot the past two weeks and I love it. It's been very fast and reliable.

And don't worry, you will get used to Nero.

Happy burnin.

40X drives are a bit of a joke as there's hardly any certified 32X media available at a decent price. CDR drives don't need more speed unless you are producing disk for commercial reasons but they do need more capacity which means DVD burners will take over within a year or two and send the CDR the way of the floppy IMO.
