Just installed my Alpha 6035 and my temp raised big time!?

Hi, I just installed my Alpha cooler today. But then when I load up Windows and check SiSoft Sandra for my CPU temp, it was (and is now) 42c! This is terribly high considering the Alpha....!! I have a KT7-Raid and a Thunderbird 750 system. Can someone please let me know what I might've done wrong? Thanks, any help is really appreciated.

Yeah, get VIA hardware monitor, or Motherboard Monitor To check your temps.

Secondly, is the clip on the alpha installed the right way.

Thirdly, remember that socket-a temp measurements are very inaccurate and compressed.

I'm pretty sure I installed it correct (though it was a pain). Also is the Alpha supposed to suck air up or blow down upon the CPU?

Mike so you're saying the "Health Status" in the bios (showing the CPU temp) is inaccurate?

THe health status in the bios is nothing more than a safegate, and a marginal one at best.

sometimes, with a UL bios, the kt7 can approximate temp well. Other times, it can be horribly incorrect.

But either way, how's the bios temp?

What kind of settings should I use on the BIOS when trying to overclock? Would 110 FSB and 4 Multiplier (750@855mhz) be good? PLMK which settings would be good. I have a KT7-Raid and a Thunderbird 750 currently clocked at 855 and voltage of 1.775. Anyone else with the same board and CPU PLMK what settings you use. Thanks!

BTW, I usually checked my temp thru the BIOS but most often SiSoft. Now I've found both which are useless, I then got Motherboard Monitor instead.

BIOs and MBM will be the same numbers, save CPU usage, since it requires a reboot to get into bios.

if you can get that high an FSB, great! But keep in mind it is unlikely, most kt133's max out at 105-108 FSB.

Mike, BIOS and MBM are the same? I just rebooted and bios showed 42c. MBM currently shows 32c. But this is kinda strange, whenever I first load Windows, MBM would show temps of around 45-50c. Then it would drop slowly (1c at a time) and slowly down to the 30's. Is it supposed to be like that? Right now I have it 750@855 with settings of 107 FSB and 6 multiplier. 1.775 voltage.

Are there any suggestions as to whether I should change it to something else, or leave it at this?

Are you using a windows IDLE program?

The bios cpu operating range is usually from 50-66% or so, so you wont' get idle temperatures, nor will you get full-load temps.

2 things.

1. Do you have MBM set up properly (proper chip definitions etc....)

2. I would suggest having the fan suck air off of the heatsink. I think this gets the best balance of performance and noise.

one question....what fan do you have on the Alpha, if it is a Delta black label your temps are really high, if you're using the Adda they are about what I would expect.

make sure the raised part of the heatsink is on the raised part of the socket!!!

is it the socket A alpha clip?

i had the same problem before, i just retensioned the clip to have it hold tighter, and it's dropped the temp down. you have some thermal good there, right?

also, what kind of power supply are you using?

My system is:

KT7-Raid
750 Slot Thunderbird
Antec Case (so I guess the power is antec also)
Just installed Alpha 6035 and currently have it sucking air.

KT7-RAID.....Slot Thunderbird
KT7-RAID.....Slot Thunderbird
KT7-RAID.....Slot Thunderbird......

somehow I don't see that working too well. I'll just assume that you meant socket A. Check to make sure that the processor is in good contact with cpu (you might have to take the mobo out of your case to do this properly) and if you're not already put some good thermal goo (I would suggest Artic Silver) on there. If you know or can find out tell us what kind of fan is on there, is it loud or can you hardly hear it etc...
