Just installed Linux Redhat, how do I subscribe to a channel to download updates?

Hmm, the best update in this case, assuming you have broadband, is to upgrade to Fedora Core 2. the fedora project is the successor to the red hat linux products, and is much newer. you will then get a program called yum, which you run from the command line, and is much more organized than the up2date program bundled w/ redhat linux 9(which is the version I'm assuming you're using)

I am also proud to say that my desk is of the same caliber of neatness as yours is in the pic :)

What's wrong with running RedHat? Why does everyone babble about updating to Fedora? RedHat runs just fine. RH9 recognizes all the hardware in my newest box without having to install buttloads of drivers after the initial install. Fedora does not.

Fedora or RedHat? RedHat it is.

Enterprise3 that I'm running, and we also have SuSe, and Ferora, all for testing purposes... Just can't figure out how to subscribe to a channel. Is it because now we have to pay for a channel subscription?

Oh... that's an old pic of me and my desk, I guess I'm due for an update of my new desk, and equally neat. :D

Ya if you want support I think you need to pay for it.

How did you get the copy of Enterprise 3 in the first place? If you paid for that then your automaticly entitled to a year of support. Or something. Redhat does not provide free access to RHE binaries.

I'd have to say I've never used it myself so if it's part of some trial or whatnot you may just have to give Redhat themselves a call. With how expensive these support options are I would be suprised if anybody here uses it outside a business enviroment.

Otherwise I'd just use Fedora Core1 and use Yum to keep up to date.

Fedora Core1 = Redhat 10.

If you don't mind using older versions of Redhat Linux, that's fine. But keep in mind that updates and such are no longer aviable from Redhat. That means no new security patches. If you want support for stuff like that you go to Fedora legacy project

I would strongly recommend you take advantage of it.

If it's enterprise, forget what I said about fedora, I was assuming it was RH9...

you might want to try some of the built-from-enterprise-source distros if you can't get enterprise updating correctly...you probably have to pay a fee to use their update
