Just installed high flow cats...

I don't get the loud exhaust obsession. A few extra HP isn't worth your car sounding broken. If you have a v6 and want a v8, get a new car. I like that my Charger doesn't sound obnoxious and is nice and quiet in the cabin. It's still a fast car. No amount of HP is worth ruining it.

That's because you have the gimpy v6. SRT or nothing for the LX platform.

OP, you're probably equating a quieter exhaust note to less power. I've had it happen to me numerous times on different cars.

Really, even a 10hp on that motor should be borderline unnoticeable, unless the cat's can't flow enough to begin with (which is a different problem altogether).

Actually you're right. The difference in power that I noticed was NOT due to installing high flow cats as I previously thought.

The true cause was that my air tube was slightly off due to having a loose clamp. I must not have tightened it properly the last time I disconnected the air tube to blow out my air filter, which I do about once a week since I have a ram air hood..

Now that it's on there properly now, I don't notice any decrease in power whatsoever. In fact, I've noticed that acceleration is smoother than ever, which could be due to the fact that the high flow cats are of a much higher quality (mandrel bent with less bends) than the cheap test pipes I had before, so the exhaust flows better in some respects, despite the catalytic converter...

The annoying rattle I would get at certain RPMs is also completely gone, which is another plus.

So all in all, it's a win. Less pollution and smoother acceleration :awe:

The only thing I'm slightly displeased with is that my car sounds so much quieter than before. Not that thats a bad thing mind you, because one of the reasons why I got the Borla cat back exhaust was because my car used to be obnoxiously loud with a terrible drone when it had the modified stock exhaust I bought it with.. The Borla 125 helped that issue tremendously, since it has such a mellow (but deep) exhaust note.

If you want to hear what the Borla 125 sounds like, click here.

I might put another cat back on the car in the future, like JBA for instance, which would make the exhaust a bit louder.. My headers and mid pipes are already JBA, so getting the JBA cat back would be completing the triumvirate so to speak.

Still have to think about it though, as cabin drone has been reported with the JBA cat back..

The 5.7L is a good engine dude.. I thought about getting the 6.1 SRT, but in the end, I decided on the 5.7 since it has significantly better gas mileage and after mods, the car would be as fast as a stock SRT, or close enough.

BTW, here's a pic of my car for all those that wanted to see. I washed it a few days ago and took a number of pics, but this was the only one I liked. I might take some at night later, so you can see the HALO headlights and LED backlights.

It's sitting on 245/45/20 Yokohama tires, and it's also slightly lowered btw.

Future planned upgrades include the brakes, caliper covers, and rims. 😉

An exhaust doesn't have to ruin a car. Mine is plenty loud when I get on it, but isn't more noticeable on the highway than stock. It does sound pretty tough when you first crank it, but once the RPMs settle down, it has that nice raspy sound.

I got the v6 for the 8-speed tranny and the fuel economy. I could have gotten an SRT but it wasn't logical since I was trading out a Yaris for something bigger and safer for my two-year-old. The baby seat in the back is my new car's most valuable aftermarket modification.

And you just made my point for me. Loud exhaust sounds like crap on a v6. "If you have a v6 and want a v8, get a new car" I said. That means I think it's dumb to intentionally make your car sound like a broken boat motor because you wish it had a bigger engine. I've never seen a car with exhaust mods that actually sounds cool. They always sound broken or noisy. The only really loud cars that sound good are true v8s or things like lambos and other supercars. You don't put blastin' bobs on a aventador.

Exhaust note is just one reason to get an aftermarket exhaust. The other, is for performance..

Aftermarket exhaust typically flow significantly better than stock exhausts, by reducing back pressure via mandrel bent tubing and using straight through muffler designs and high flow cats..

I know I noticed a performance difference when I switched from my stock exhaust to the borla 125. Not only did I notice more power, but even at idle the engine sounded more even indicating it was breathing much better than before..

Take a listen to Audi's straight 5 or BMW's straight 6s (particularly the 335i). Ever hear VW's VR6? Or how about my avatar's version? I think the cars your hearing aren't done properly.

Exhaust sound has a lot to do with motor design, firing order, manifold design, and to a certain extent, muffler designs. Needless to say a V6 will sound different than an inline 6. I agree, you can't get an American V8 grumble out of a German 6, or a Japanese 4. Just like you're not going to get an Italian V12 out of a German V8.

If done properly, some, not all cars, will have a nice, sometimes vast improvement.

Those cars sound nice stock, but once the exhaust is amped up, they all start to sound broken to me. I understand why people modify their exhausts for more HP. IMHO, that money is better saved towards a faster car. I'm just a stock kind of guy, I guess.

Don't get me started on loud pipes on bikes.
