Just installed an 8800gt.

Well this sux, each time I restart my computer the GPU fan settings revert back to auto and thus 29%, can I please get some assistance with Riva Tuner on how to adjust the fan settings?

If you are using RT then there is no need to have the buggy nTune IMO.

The card is a bit longer than my old 6800, so I had to take out the intake fan behind my hard drive cage. After setting stuff in RT though (fan idles at 40%), it's not much warmer than my 6800 (50C as opposed to 46-47). It runs games beautifully and I haven't even tried overclocking yet.

When your card is idling at 70 C, make sure the fan is actually spinning. I have a BFG 8800 GT from Best Buy and every time my idle temp is like that, the fan is stuck. When the fan is running, I'm idling at around 40 C and goes up to 72 C under load while in Crysis.

I'm going to exchange this card once they come back in stock. For now, I need to "jump start" the fan every time I turn on my computer ... which is pretty sad 🙁

ask john if he thinks 72c is ok 😉

all of the g92 and rv670 cards have this problem. just set fan in rivatuner and have it save that setting, it will auto load next time you boot up. I used it on my 3870 to set the fan at 53% and have had zero problems. In fact, i'm idling at 28c now...

72C under full load is exceptional if you're using the factory hsf.

Mine idles at ~53C with fan at 45%, and Crysis load is ~75C with the fan at 75%.

Factory HSF, the noise is generally negligible at 75%, with the other fans in my case.

nVidia would not release a product that would burn itself up.

Even if it does, it's called a warranty!!!

Why worry about all this nonsense about using 3rd party applications to increase fan speed (and add lots of noise), just to placate your mind's obsessive desire for a cool GPU!!!

My 8800gt will be arriving from eVGA soon (thanks Step-up), and I plan on seeing how quiet I can make it with the stock cooler (without artifacting), not how low I can get the temps!
