Just in

The shorter length Apollo model with Zalman styled cooler is now $179.99 AR ($10) + $5.84 shipping. The previous Apollo HD 3850 rebate arrived in under one month. Nice price for a decent gaming card. Prices have dropped rapidly during the last few weeks.

With the 3870 dropping below $200 hopefully we'll see the 3870X2 dip below $400 soon. It doesn't make much sense for them to charge more for it than the cost of two 3870s.

...except that you don't need a crossfire board to run the 3870X2 and also don't have the typical crossfire issues.

I think the only thing that will push down that price will be the GF9 cards.

I understand that point, but it's a matter of perception really...

It's pretty standard practice that when you buy more of something the price per unit goes down, not up. The price per gpu for the single 3870 is cheaper than the price per gpu for a 3870X2. Plus, while the X2 technically has 1GB of RAM the actual usable frame buffer is still 512MB, and it's DDR3 RAM as opposed to DDR4... There is no good reason that the X2 should be ~$450 when 3870s are dipping below $200 each.
