Just in Boy Scouts will allow boys & girls

for the record I have no children and was barely involved in the Boy Scouts as a kid.

Not sure how I feel about this, I like the idea of modernization and I also like the idea of a boys only group to teach boys how to be men.
Thoughts guys?

The adolescent boys wouldn't mind if girls went camping with them. No kidding. 😉

It may have been even support across the board, but the push for this is overly PC gender nonsense. And don't get me wrong, I support LGBT rights, marriage, don't care how someone goes about living their life, gay, straight, or somewhere in between. But the push for this has been long in the making and is to appease the PC crowd.

Ironic that such a position is not so comfortable for a male only organization to espouse; in trying to make progress in gender inequality we have done so precisely in a way that reinforces it.
 
I'm all for equality but this is absurd. That's why it's called the 'Boy' Scouts and 'Girl' Scouts. *Sigh*............

That's a little bit of what I mean
For clarification per the news local chapters(?) will be able to decide if the stay boys only, mixed or girls only.
In the future I could see pressure on the boys only groups but I guess we'll see.

I'm sure we'll see a name change to "Scouts"
I'm still not sure about this and I have little experience with it. I'm trying to figure out if this is a good idea or not.
 
Is there a reason girls can't or shouldn't learn the values and lessons the boy scouts teach to its members?


Does this decision affect our local snow flakes in any shape or form? For people who think gun control shouldn't be on the table because there are other more pressing matters, I find it odd those same people would care about this at all.
 
I don't think it has to do with "PC gender nonsense". I think the Boy Scouts are just trying to increase their numbers:

Don't forget, girls can be scouts currently they just can't attain the highest rank.

Girls are now part of four scouting programs — Venturing and Sea Scouting, geared toward outdoor activities; Exploring, a career-oriented mentoring program; and STEM, focusing on science and math. But those programs have not offered a path to Eagle Scout for girls.

I don't think it's about teaching girls or restricting girls. Seems like it's more about a club of young men that have a male centric culture to learn what it is to be an adult male.
Again minimal scouting experience in my background so maybe I'm completely wrong.

I don't think anyone is upset about this, I certainly don't care. But the push behind it is what it is. It is ok to have an opinion on more than gun control, yes?

You seem pretty upset by it and your posts certainly indicate that you do care. Had you not bothered posting in this thread I could certainly see how you could claim you don't care.

I don't care what the Boy Scouts choose to do here, it is their organization, their choice. But, I do have an opinion on how this came to be, overly PC gender nonsense. Just 20 years ago the Boy Scouts fought in court (and won) the right to not have to take in girls. In recent years it has been in the news again, and people are afraid to do anything that isn't PC these days.

Yes in simplest terms they different job titles with overlapping responsibilities.
However it appears there will be male and female groups it does not appear anyone can join anywhere

I agree that this is a numbers and survival game. Kids/parents are so overwhelmed with after school activities that it's increasingly hard to split time across them. Plus with two professional/working parents you are often stuck bringing a sibling along anyway. And then you have the whole cultural shift to less and less outdoor activities driving down attendance. Enrollment in scouts has been dropping year after year for several years. This is an attempt to try and stop some of the hemorrhaging. Will it work? Doubt it. Their core supporters are the ones at the very most against it. You'll push them out without bringing in enough to fill the void.

I'm not aware of any public or national movement that has been calling for the integration of both boys and girls into its rank. So I'm calling BS on your claim.
