Gas is more expensive because of Hurricane Katrina.

But that's because they were onyl driving 45. THey revisited that episode and basically said it's more fuel efficient tohave the windows down at below freeway speeds but to use the AC at freeway speeds over 50 or so.

hm.. the more aerodynamic the car, the lower the breakeven point?

btw- wish there was a Garage subforum :p

Damn necro thread is necro'd.

That said, if you have to worry about a few dollars in gas, perhaps you should reconsider your mode of transportation.

How much extra bandwidth does a necro waste? How do you convert this bandwidth into energy costs?

The myth busters show found that the window all the way down at 50mph was a little less efficient than AC on at 50mph. You can crack your windows at 50mph though.

AC isn't that wasteful IMO. Fast acceleration is so much worse.

"Waste" and "use" mean two different things..if running AC makes you feel better, then by no means is it a waste.

It is if you didn't fill up on your way to work and your fuel light was on and there is a region wise power outage at 3PM that lasts well into the night creating gridlock throughout the city for your 30+ commute home... oh, and it was in the high 80s temp wise.

Don't ask me how I know about this. Let's just say it took me over 2 hours to get home and I didn't use the AC at all. Estimated range was 12 miles when I pulled onto my street.

Oop, necro thread. Oh well, my post still stands. :p
