I know that when we at Best Buy offer a product replacement plan you don't have to purchase it for another 30 days.

This weekend my g/f can get 20% and $5 off a PS2 at Sears

Now what if I go to Best Buy and try to buy they PRP all they really need is the SKU

If anyone has used the PRP on a PS2 do they use verification for the PS2 sales or the verification for the PS2 PRP?

Wouldn't they track the serial number for the PS2 PRP? AFAIK that's how its done.

I don't think so, they are selling you insurance for something. It would be like buying a car from Ford Motors then getting the insurance through Allstate.

I would think that the PRP is only for PS2 purchased at BB and they are probably tracked by SNs.

I'm not sure what you're talking about either...maybe that you want to by it a PS2 at sears and have bestbuy 'insure' it? That wouldn't really be a question of morals, but of ethics (atleast ethics is a better word for this), and yes it would certainly be ethically wrong.

If bestbuy is willing to sell you the PRP separately from the PS2, then I don't see the problem.

But taking a PS2 you bought from sears and trying to pass it off as one from Bestbuy is a little unethical.

ok heres what hes trying to do... its legal 100%.. buy a product from sears and buy a best buy plan on it... i work at staples and people do this all the time... at least at staples you can do it no problem.. even if you didnt buy the item from us you can still buy the plan.. so unless best buy has some stiplation saying you cant.. i would see why not..

I agree. They make a a huge (average) profit off those plans, and I doubt any of it is "subsidized" by the item itself.

it would be morally wrong if the system was already broken and you got the plan just to get it replaced... some guy came in to staples wanting to do that and i told him that it would be fraud.. well just for future refrence you can buy plans on anything electronic like pdas/computer/notebook at staples.. even if you bought it at best buy.. we dont care, we just want the sales. If the item is under 300 bucks all our warranty company does is send you a staples cash card and you get to keep the broken item and long as it is legitmatlly broken which is really nice IMHO... of course they do audits.. but genereally speaking its real easy and painless
